Some random songs I really like

Holy crap, a little late in my reply, no? Like I said, still working on the Olympics and it gets harder and harder to find internet time.

I heard right away when Steve Page was leaving. I can't say I was either surprised nor particularly disappointed. I love BNL, more than any other band, in fact. But I got the feeling for the last few years that Steve was wandering his own path - dare I say even getting lost a bit? I wish him luck in his solo career, but it'll be the rest of the Ladies I'll be following. His voice will truly be missed in that musical ensemble, but Ed has the chops to carry it, I think. Things change, life moves on, and I have a pile of BNL CDs to keep me company when I need some soul soothing.

KITH

They did. No mention of Newsradio, though, otherwise I think Dave would have to have been spared the crush treatment. :)

KITH

Hey, I saw them in Vancouver. And I paid a lot more than $36 because the Ticketmaster route was sold out. It was worth every penny, though, because as you said, it was grin-worthy from beginning to end. The Head Crusher even got *this* close to crushing my head. He crushed the guy 2 seats away from me. I was sitting 4th row from the stage and could barely contain my excitement.

My favourite was Mark McKinney's literary-style recitation (oration?) about walking through the dark, dirty alleyway, etc. A bit strange, a bit unexpected, and not funny in any kind of traditional sense, but that's KITH, isn't it?

Plus, I have a new saying now, thanks to Buddy Cole:
"I'm sweating worse than Tom Sizemore on day four of a crystal meth bender. And I smell like the whore he's pissing on!"

Where will you be going to Uni? Hometown or moving away?

I like how you described "Adrift". I've loved their lyrical wizardry for ages, like in "Am I the Only One?" (Am I the only one who loves when you leave....your hair down in front of your eyes?) I'm going to have to pick up BLA Men for sure now, if only to hear "Half a Heart" and "Beautiful".

Woo, Crash Bandicoot! I've loved every iteration of that game.

Hey Wezzo! No, I haven't been haunting these boards of late, though I just started browsing the recent updates again last week. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic planning is keeping me pretty busy these days.

I'm doing well, thanks for asking. I do really like Barenaked Ladies are Me , but I haven't yet got my hands on the BLA Men album yet. I only realized they were two different things after seeing the Men one in a Starbucks of all places and seeing the track list. I think my favourite track (off the top of my head) would be Bank Job . In general, I love that they're exploring a more folksy tone, though I loved their straight-up blockbuster pop songs as well.

I went to a recent concert which was just all kinds of awesome. No one I knew really wanted to pay $100 for a ticket, so I went by myself. It was a small venue, which made me very, very happy. Ed almost fell off the stage at one point. Also, a few months back I managed to catch them at an invitation-only concert in which they played a lot of tracks they don't usually showcase.

I haven't heard Snacktime . Is it any good? They were doing a signing at an Indigo Books for parents with kids the day of the concert, but I couldn't manage to A) kidnap one of my nieces, nor B) make it way out to boonyland Langley to see them at 9:00 a.m.

How are things in your world?

The mixes I received were really eclectic. I think my favourite was from Jim (IIRC), which had some Irishy punk, some blues, I even heard some bhangra. I also received a CD full of music from Australia, which was interesting.

You can buy things called International Reply coupons (or something. It's called "international reply" something, anyway). I did this from Canada last year, although Jim had some difficulties getting his post office to recognize what they were. Hopefully DGeiser's local post office is a little more worldly.

I think it's worth doing, if you can swing it. I still listen to my mixes I received last year. Luck of the draw, though.

Wow, it takes some work to find a show when you don't know its title. It was called 15 Storeys High.

Thanks! IIRC you're in the UK, right? Did you ever catch a short-lived series called (something like) The Fifteenth Floor? I can't find anyone who remembers it, but I thought it was funny as hell.

2001: Movies Sorted By Tier

Hey Jim. Regarding Pulse, I had to check IMDB to see if we'd seen the same film, and sure enough we didn't. I didn't realize the 2006 film was a remake. My take on the 2006 one (which I watched last night, Halloween) was that the premise had the capacity to be very cheesy and the message too obvious. The message was indeed obvious: the last 15 seconds of the film could have been cut, increasing my enjoyment of the whole thing 10-fold. However, the execution of the ghosts and the suspense/horror in general was wonderful. I was genuinely freaked out, and that almost never happens.

However, given your lukewarm reception to the original, I'm guessing you won't bother with the remake. Nor am I suggesting that you watch it - I just thought it was interesting that the difference in execution seems to be so different for the two.

What's your favorite coffee source?

Dunkin' Donuts? Seriously? What about local cafes in addition to local diners? Perhaps it's where I'm from, but no one goes to a diner for coffee. There is a plethora of cafe choices here. Of course, this city is so mad about coffee we have two Starbucks kitty-corner to each other.

I don't think it exists anywhere else, but my choice would be JJ Bean. Or Ethical Bean.

2007 Films - Ranked

I just had a look at his filmography and you're right. Not much finesse there. However, even From Dusk Till Dawn was more restrained than Planet Terror . Don't get me wrong, I was totally into the campy OTT-ness of it, but at the end of the day, I think Tarantino is simply the better filmmaker.

Although, Rodriguez did El Mariachi , which I recall as being completely awesome. It's been a long time, though, so I don't remember if it was very well made and awesome, or just awesome for its content.

This is much more analysis than I ever should do for Grindhouse , though. I really just want to hold up the rock fingers to this one.

Count me in as someone who favoured Death Proof . While both were thrilling to me in different ways, in the end I felt Planet Terror didn't have quite the finesse or satisfying ending that DP had.
