For me, the 3rd to 5th seasons were the best. Well before Homer became an unfunny characterature of himself. They were all still written as real people. My favorite by far is when Homer refuses to go to church and stays home to watch football. Rev Lovejoy - "We can all live together, be you Christian, Jew, or other"
Worst episode - I think it's the one where Lisa thinks every Simpson gets stupider as they age. A frightening analogy for the actual show.
Have you heard any Bill Hicks? His DVD was released recently and I think it's hilarious. If you like Denis Leary, you'll probably like Bill since alot of comedians credit Denis with stealing Bill's material after he died. If you look on the IMDB, you'll even see Bill Hicks as the uncredited writer for No Cure For Cancer.
Levon is very bitter about it in his book because Robbie got all the royalties while the rest of them got nothing. A very interesting question. If you ask Robbie, he wrote all the songs. If you ask Garth or Levon, they added important things to them (organ part in Stage Fright, the mouth harp in Cripple Creek to name a few). If you wrote a song, lyrics and basic chord structure and I added a distinctive guitar part would we be co-authors? Probably not. I guess I'm biased with the Band because they were all great musicians so I'd lean towards "RR & the Band" but in a legal, logical kind of way, I'd have to admit he pretty much wrote the songs, defeating my own argument.
In regards to Robbie Robertson. I've read Levon's book. He says although Robbie wrote the outline of most of the songs, he felt they were collaborations due to what everyone added to the final product. You could certainly state a case that once the Band broke up, he failed to write one decent song on his own (though I do like Broken Arrow). Unlike the Beatles where they were able to achieve success by themselves, Robbie pretty much faded away. In my estimation, Robbie had the talent but he needed the other guys to hone it and boost it.
The only one I'm hesitant about is Blink 182. Since they were the first along with Green Day. Most of the rest of your list is devoted to bands trying vainly to sound half as good as Green Day or Blink 182. I think Chris Rock said it best at the MTV video awards "Good Charolette? More like a mediocre Green Day." Have you seen the video online of Brazillian fans pelting Nickelback with rocks at a concert. Way to funny.
Thanks for the kind words about the band. We have a lot of fun. I'm not much of a technical player but I try real hard. I would love any music sampler you are inclined to make. I'd be happy to do the same for you. I have quite a few indie band CDs along with many other styles (I have over 1200 cds, yes I know it's a problem). Just let me know what you're intersted in. I'm afraid (like many others) Alright Now is the only Free song I've heard. Not familiar with Webb at all in solo work.
Thanks for the info. I always assumed he was popular but then again, the Spice Girls used to rule the country right? I've been getting some imports of old Humble Pie records that are unavailable in the USA. Just got Town and Country which I love. The internet has made getting imports a lot easier. Used to be a trip to the House of Guitars in Rochester to get any import. I also had to get some XTC over the internet as if it ain't rap, it's not in the mall.
You could make a whole list of simple 3-chord catchy songs like How Bizarre. That Halo Hanging From My 4 Post Bed song. You Got the Hooch. So many... Since you put a Kelly Clarkson song in your list, I'm willing to admit in print that I actually liked the Wilson Phillips song Hold On. I'm so ashamed.

I got a Listen First CD with many dance mixes on it, a much more mellow CD called I Ain't a Hitter Anymore which was my taste to a T, and the David Sedaris (from nearby Johnson City NY)one.
My bad, didn't see the other list. I had to import the last few Madness CDs. Not available here.
I know it's not ska, but my favorite Jimmy Cliff is Many Rivers to Cross.
One, two, three, four - The Ramones
How about The Specials and Madness? I never get tired of their music.

Prof,
This email address didn't work. Keeps getting returned. Sorry for all the trouble.

My Listen First CD was all dance tracks with a few remixes thrown in. Doesn't sound like yours. I think they were all different.
How were Wishbone Ash? I've always thought Argus was one of the finest guitar albums of it's time. Amazing stuff.
I've got tickets for Hot Tuna in three weeks. Jorma and Jack in a 100 seat theater. Can't wait for the Water Song.
