Haha, thanks for the reference. I'll be sure to check that guy's list out.
We just have different tastes, and that's respectable. But your last statement (popularity vs. "greatness") sums up my point quite nicely. In every genre, there are always those mainstream artists that are criticized by those that favor the classic or underground style. And this criticism, in my opinion, is mostly caused by bitterness.
Seriously though, why would an artist be popular if he wasn't great? Tiesto makes great music, which is why he's popular. People listen to his songs, buy his songs, download his songs, and play his songs more than those which you say possess "musical greatness". But really, what's the point of music? It's meant to entertain, and so -- if the music's not popular, the consensus is that it's generally not entertaining, and therefore, not very good...
Wow, you not knowing the third song is a definite blow to your credibility. How did you not know which song it was, when "For An Angel" is number 27 on your list?
Darktremor, don't take this as criticism but we definitely have different tastes in Trance. You seem to think Trance was best pre-1995, while I think it's just become so much better post-1999. Your old trance is so monotonous, featuring simple (and tasteless) melodies and simple beats. Most new trance, on the other hand, consists of several epic melodies PER SONG, complex drum beats, and most important of all, generally new sounds.
Though I have never in my life shouted "TIIIIEEEESSSSTTTOOOOO!!!!", the man deserves his credit. Obviously being crowned the #1 DJ in the world must mean something. His 'In Search of Sunrise' mixes are excellent and all of his albums (discounting 'Elements of Life') are great.
What bugs me more than 'Didgeridoo' being number 2 on your list, is 'Cafe Del Mar' being number 3. That song sucks. And then, you have the audacity to remove the Tiesto mix of Delerium's "Silence" and Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone". Wow...
I actually think what is missing from the top most songs on your list are vocals. In my opinion, once vocals started being more widely used (post-1999), Trance music became loads better. What do you think?
But feel free to censor this post. You did it once before, so don't take this personally.
Can someone explain to me why that song is "the best of all time"? I don't get it. It's redundant and the melody is crap. It feels like it's missing something.
From 1999 onwards is when Trance actually started to get good. Does anyone have a list of top Trance songs post-1999?
Thanks for the response! Your genuinely personal interest in learning and reading is extremely refreshing and inspiring!
I graduated from high school earlier this month, and as a parting gift, my English teacher gave me his three favorite classics - "Madame Bovary", "Jane Eyre", and "Ethan Frome". Looking over your extensive list, I noticed you read all three of these novels towards the end of 2006! I also noticed that you've read a huge amount of literature since then, but I am curious to know how you would rank these three texts in order of how much you enjoyed them!
I know I'll be reading all three of these books at some point, but I think I can only complete one of them before heading to college in mid-August. Which one would you recommend?
Thank you for the insight! It is very much appreciated!
Sorry Bill, my comment was not meant to be demeaning in any way!
It was an attempt at sarcasm, since I'm thoroughly impressed by your list. You've read more books (and of such a heavy face) than I could hope to read in my whole life! Well done!

It's very logical thinking, in my opinion. :)

Speaking of Iio, the Armin Van Buuren remix of Iio's "Rapture" is completely excellent. What do you say darktremor?
I would vote for Cafe Del Mar.

The last one is For An Angel by Paul Van Dyk!

Where did you study? I'd be interested to know!
That's all?
