I still try to listen to some trance/techno/house, and some indie music, but I've always found it extremely time consuming (although enjoyable) to keep up with what's current and good. I just don't have the time nor the money to do that right now, unfortunately. Back in the day, when I was djing, I was in the record store twice a week picking up new music.
I think I come from a different perspective than most of the people on here who have trance lists. I experienced the whole phenomena first hand, (being 34 now), instead of retrospectively like the majority of people who have trance lists (generally under 20 yrs. old). Needless to say, I am biased towards classic trance. I've also heard plenty of Goa, and it's just not my thing, although I do have an appreciation for it.
I like progressive house, although I'm the first to admit I'm not up to date with much that has been happening lately. I guess I really lost touch with the rave scene in about 1997.
Not sure what else to add here except that it's good to have an opinion from someone who doesn't attack this list. I just made it for my own amusement. I knew it would elicit a lot of controversy, but I like to argue/discuss music, so that's ok.
hey!
looks like you're into the old stuff huh?
I know the Acen and Altern8 tracks, and the Jonny L song. I'd have to listen to the rest though. I've probably heard most of them, just forgot about them.
You should make a rave/hardcore/oldskool list of your own!
Hard trance is and 'artistic wasteland?'
I'm interested to know what you consider hard trance, b/c it's one of my favourite genres. Although I'm not into all these labels for trance, I would label a lot of classic trance also as hard trance. I guess that has a lot to do with the fact that when I listened to it the first time around it wasn't 'classic' yet, it was just 'hard trance.'
I totally agree with you on the length issue for trance songs. I generally hate club mixes of trance songs, which are under 6 minutes. Trance tracks need time to build. That's what it's all about. I think most of my favourite trance songs are 8 minutes or more. An example that comes to mind is Quench - Dreams. The original extended mix is so much better than the shortened version. I find people who prefer the shortened versions don't have the attention span nor patience to listen properly.
I guess I like the usual suspects, Haclyon, Lush 3-1, and Impact. I like to listen to the whole album from start to finish though, for the full impact.
hey thanks for the compliment!
So you don't like the First Rebirth? I personally love it. I think it's really emotional trance, although quite fast and a bitch to dj with, hehe.
I like the original Marmion. I'm not sure if I've heard remixes of it.
I should include some Astral Projection. Do any tracks stand out that you would recommend? I can't think of any off hand (it's been awhile).
Not sure what you mean by the influence comment, but thanks.
Never heard it, I'll give it a listen though, thanks.
Ya I know Mahadeva. I think I'll add it, thanx.

Just one of the few newer mixes I like more than the original.

In my opinion, most epic and anthem is horrible...

I guess. I'm not a fan of anthem and epic, so I guess that explains it.

Thanks (I guess?).
Yes I feel "bite me" if an effective term.
I don't get it. Is this a mix I'm supposed to download or what?
