Thanks. Dishonored is now fixed in my top 10, with the Mizoguchi and the Carpenter.
You´re right about Showgirls not being camp; I really think it´s a very sincere film which avoids cynicism (I would connect it with the magnificent Mission to Mars). It combines the charm of the chick flicks with the unpleasantness inherent to Verhoeven´s films, and the result is both touching and dark. And Elizabeth Berkley´s performance is outstanding.
As for Wizard of Oz, I would say it has a lot of depth at its heart and that it seems a beyond great fantasy/musical/comedy on its surface. I love it too, and consider it slightly better than the other "fairy tale" (the truth is I didn´t make the connection between the two films till your message, but it makes sense).
BTW, your list of favorites is great and I always keep an eye on your film log.
In fact, Vol. 2 is my least favorite Tarantino movie, but I liked it nonetheless. I´m not really an enthusiast of his ouvre like others, simply enjoyed greatly Vol. 1 for his genious style and the mixing of underappreciated genres. The more emotional tone in the second part didn´t do much for me, but at least it showed how intelligent and personal this filmmaker is. After I see his Death Proof, I´ll try to revisit some of his pictures and finally watch Reservoir Dogs, which I haven´t yet.
Yes, Dishonored has become one of my favorite films. It has a powerful ending that almost made me cry, it has Dietrich at his best, and it´s simply one of those feminist works that don´t get made very often. Apart from these things, the best of the movie is the magical montage and the use of diegetical music (great directorial decisions). One subjetive reason for loving this picture would be my love for cats.
And about Apocalypto I would say it´s only a great over-the-top ride which confronts man and nature. Gibson sees the mayans as animals but he finds humanity in them: it has at least two scenes of tragic beauty. But I must say in this type of movie I prefer better efforts like Predator or the more similar Conan the Barbarian. I would´t watch it again but it worked so well at the theater...
Can I join please?

Well, it´s a lot better than the first but I still found it subpar.
I joined; it will be interesting, for sure.
Hi, I also want to join this. I even numbered the list: http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm/content_id.27546
