What I'm Listening to Today: 2/12/04

Dolly Parton - "Little Sparrow" - 9:00 A.M. - Dolly is some of the more tolerable country/bluegrass that I can listen to. I'll even admit that I enjoy Dolly's music. She has such a pretty sweet voice. It's certainly not one of my favorite albums - what country album is, for that matter - but it's nice to have around in case I'm in a Dolly mood.

More Immortal Beloved - 10:30 A.M. - The second soundtrack to the movie Immortal Beloved. Compliments of the Master Beethoven. I've heard the first soundtrack and just adore it. I have been wanting more of it for a long time. I will be looking to acquire the Immortal Beloved soundtrack because it is one I could listen to over and over and never tire of. I LOVE Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, OP. 67 - III. Allegro (attaca). :) It makes me imagine some hero performing some kind of...well...heroic act. At least parts of it do. It's a very interesting piece. I am so fond of Beethoven. Really I can't think of any other composer who puts so much "oomph" into their music, so much passion and emotion. His music is a big variation on sadness, triumph, excitement, and sensuality. MMMMm Bravo Beethoven! :)

"Ever thine,
ever mine,
ever ours.

How sweet!

Def Leppard - "Slang" - 2:30 P.M. - I was a young fan of their 1987 "Hysteria" album with their classic "Pour Some Sugar on Me" track. This is their 1996 album. They still have the same sound and that is amazing. I'm pleasantly surprised. I do like the subtle Eastern and Middle Eastern touches they've added to these rock songs, even the Buddha picture on the bricks on the cover to the album. The title track, "Slang," is extremely reminiscent of their original style from the 80's. "All I Want is Everything" is a super rock-ballad. Oh, I could just melt to "Breathe a Sigh"! "Deliver Me" absolutely is a hot rock song that belongs in a movie, particular a modern-day movie about vampires. I'm not really paying attention to the lyrics right now but the sound alone gives it that merit. OOOoooo "Blood Runs Cold" has kidnapped me and I don't want to be rescued. :) Are there any bands around today that do ballads like this or is this type of music long gone with the rock hair bands of the 80's? Nice intro sounds to "Where Does Love Go When It Dies"! Captivating, surely. Almost brought tears to my eyes it was so beautiful! Am I going to find a song on this album that I don't like? There has to be at least one but so far I have not found one. I have to say this, but doesn't Joe Elliot, the lead singer of Leppard, sound like Bryan Adams (or voice versa)? No wonder I like both of them!

Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack - 3:30 P.M. - Composed by Klaus Badelt - Badelt did an excellent job actually using his music to help recreate the imagery of pirates dueling with their swords. Even if I had not seen the movie Pirates, I still would have thought of at least sword fighting with this music! The middle of track 5, "Swords Crossed," is just spooky. I can see the army of skeleton pirates coming towards me now! Shiver me timbers, run for the plank!!! OK, this is seriously ESSENTIAL music collection material. It is probably my favorite soundtrack, and ranks right up at the top of my favorite music CDs of all time.
