What I'm Listening to Today: 1/30/04
Today's reviews will be very short as I'm working overtime today, but I'm posting them anyway so anyone who is interested will know what I'm listening to.
Mary Fahl - "The Other Side of Time" - 4:40 P.M. -Deep voice like Annie Lennox. Track 2, "Going Home" has a Celtic-folk sound. I grabbed this off the library shelf with my eyes closed to see what I'd pick up because I wanted to try something new. Has anyone else heard of her? I have no idea who she is, but by the looks of her I thought she'd have a high voice but it is definitely a deep voice. The rest of the album is very folkie in flavor. She's pretty flexible. I'm glad I discovered this. Track 4 has a Middle Eastern flare to it. I LOVE music with a bit of the middle east. It's very mysterious. OH, OH OH OH! Her attempt at "Una Furtiva Lagrima" is beautiful! Her deep sexy voice really hits the spot on this piece. This song alone makes this CD worth owning. And I'm saying this as I'm listening to it for the VERY first time! Astounding!!! For reasons I don't even know myself, track 14, "The Dawning of the Day" is slightly reminiscent of Enya. Beautiful.

So glad to see someone else appreciating Mary Fahl. She is best known for having been the lead singer of October Project, an amazing collaborative band who had two successful albums and were mysteriously booted from their label. A few members have come out with some solo stuff and now three original members have joined up to continue the new October Project but in my opinion it just isn't the same without Mary's voice. If you like this album, I truly believe you'd love the first two October Project albums. Enjoy!
