I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to find a list of works by an older author. I remember a series of books I read as a kid written by Simon Brett, the Three Detectives series of books, that were mysteries for kids. I was just trying to find a list of all of his books in this series, but I've been unable to find anything online. Anyone have any suggestions about where to look?

Searching www.abebooks.com for author: Simon Brett and title: Three Detectives turned up quite a few books available.

That's true, but they are the same two books. I know he had written many (something like 10 at least), and I was hoping to find a complete list.

It's possible that some of the books in the series were "based on the characters by..." and so wouldn't show up under the authors name.

Also, and this sounds really quaint, but you may want to check a library. You can access most of the big public libraries from online. :)

Try the Library of Congress on-line catalog. Unfortunately, it only came up with two "Three Detectives" novels. btw, these aren't the Alfred Hitchcock presents books, are they?

Nope, I was thinking of the "Three Investigators" books, which featured a end-of-mystery wrap-up with Hitchcock.

Well, I think it's my bad, because I just searched for Three Investigators and the description seems just as I remembered (though I don't have any recollection of anything with Hitchcock in them). So, I was searching for the wrong thing the entire time. No wonder I could find anything. :)

Thanks everyone for your help. :)

I didn't see any Three Investigators books by Brett. The Three Investigators was about three boys who (duh) solve mysteries. One lives in a junkyard (his parents run it) and they have an old RV as their headquarters. Hitchcock was never involved in the story, but the three met with him in a sort of epiloque to tell him about the case afterwards. iirc.

Well, the problem I had is that I had thought they were called the Three Detectives and then searched for any books that were in a series of that name, found the Brett name, and then went from there. So, a series of bad research steps on my part.

The books you describe are exactly what I was thinking about.
