Good idea for a quiz, but quite tough.
The only one I know (or at least hope to know):
2. Citizen Kane
yup!
We'll see how the difficulty is for others. Thanks for the feedback.
Since most of these are incredibly famous and popular films, I can't wait to watch people start kicking themselves for not getting them earlier, or before someone else :-)
I put quite a lot of effort into making them tricky, and yet specific to only one film (or, at best, a very few films).
OK, I see that, for most listologists, it wasn't that difficult.
Now #3, #5, #15 and #17 seem to be so easy, but I just didn't get them.
Wow, these are tricky.
??? 8. Say Anything
??? 11. Saving Privat Ryan
I feel I'm guessing here.
11 - correct!
What would be the candle and the battle in Say Anything?
Oh, no freakin' idea. Just guessing. Thought maybe there were parts to Say Anything I'd forgotten. :-)
ok.
*Changed the unguessed ones to make them more complete, and hopefully, easier.
These are my guesses:
1. Safety Last!
3. Rear Window
5. The Princess Bride
6. Shane
8. Frankenstein
9. Triumph Of The Will
10. Fantasia
1, 3, and 10 were the ones I was thinking of.
Interesting. I hadn't considered The Princess Bride for #5. What would 'a message' be, in that chronology of The Princess Bride?
#6 - it's been a while since I've seen Shane. Who is the foreigner and sadist, and what is the favorite?
#8 - who is the girl, that early in the story? And what is the candle?
#9 - Don't think I've seen that one. Could you outline how it fits, part by part?
Those three were just guesses. I didn't pick up on the fact that you were listing the points in chronological order, but some of the matches are there (though very thinly in most cases).
In Shane, one of the settlers was Axel "Swede" Shipstead, a Scandinavian immigrant. The sadist is Shane's nemesis Jack Wilson, who gunned down Stonewall Torrey in cold blood. And the favorite is Marian Starrett leaning towards Shane, I guess. Told you they were stretches!
I hope you don't mind if I reserve that slot for a more appropriate guess (hopefully, the one I was thinking of).
Thank you for pointing out you weren't aware that chronology was involved, I'll fix that.
Yeah, that's fine, I knew they were iffy at best. It'll be interesting to see what the answers turn out to be, and if I was anywhere in the same ballpark.
Feel free to think outside the box, everyone. Some of these are intentionally vague. 5 and 6, particularily, are almost certainly not anything like what you're thinking. :-)
4. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
good!
Is 9 Patton?
yes!!
#12 would be The Godfather, yes?
indeed!
I'm just so tickled no one has gotten #5 and #6.I'm definitely enjoying this game more than anybody else, sorry! :-)
5. Could be Star Wars.
6. Could be Unforgiven.
7. Could be Koyaanisqatsi.
8. Could be Willow.
T'ho
:?)
NICE!!!!
#5 and #7 are correct!
Could you explain how your guesses for #6 and #8 fit the chronological simplified plots I supply? They aren't what I was thinking, and in my recollection they don't really work for what I've provided, but I could be wrong.
I'm curious, stooky, how did you get Koyaanisqatsi? Was it BECAUSE the clues were soooo general and not necessarily indicative of plot? Or did a couple of the items jump out at you, or what?
That last one there sounds like Pulp Fiction.
yup!
13 - Overdose before watch, yes?
Pulp Fiction
8 sounds like Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
6 could be either Shane or The Searchers, but neither really seems quite right...
Shalom, y'all!
L. Bangs
Ah, rats. Imposter beat me to the draw by mere minutes!
Shalom, y'all!
L. Bangs
Thanks for the Pulp Fiction correct, but can ya blame me? :-) Anyway, yeah, Imposter JUST beat you to it.
But, you're right with #8!!!
And, neither guess for #6 is what I was thinking of.
14 - The Adventures of Robin Hood
Shalom, y'all!
L. Bangs
you bet
There, I changed #6 a little, maybe it'll help.
15. Femme Fatale?
TOTAL guess. I've seen bits and pieces and it could make sense.
Haven't seen it, so it might fit, but I was thinking of something far more popular.
How about:
16. 2001
17. Return Of The Jedi
lol, you're guessing 'em too fast, now! :-) Good job.
15. King Kong.
Btw, congratulations on this very clever and challenging game. Your own idea?
I can't know for sure I'm the first one to do it,, but it was my own idea, yeah. Thanks for the compliment! And, you're correct!
I just got it!!!!
6. Toy Story!
Well, hopefully, cuz it makes sense.
Yay!
with 18, I'm really tempted to say Aladin.
19. On the Waterfront.
Btw, I like this game so much that I cloned it. Now I have to make a list of the movies you've already done so that I don't repeat any of yours - there's always a downside :-D
21. The Princess Bride? I can probably account for all those plot points, but I'm not sure if they're in the right order.
Yes! Your likely confusion lies with the fact that many of these vague terms could descibe several events that happen throughout the movie - which, of course, I did on purpose to be a tricksy hobbit.
#20 - Is it Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Hmmm... I suppose that might work, but it's not what I was intending. Generally, if I include a character as one of the 'sentences,' I will include it in sequence for when the character was introduced. And I can't think of any 'kick' that came before Roger Rabbit was introduced.
Anyway, good guess... and perhaps workable, but I'll wait for the one I was thinking of, which makes even more sense.
Oh, damn... #20 is "The Matrix", innit?
Geez, you guys are guessing these much quicker than I can make them up! :-)
is 24 Jaws?
yup
How did I not get this before? #23 is obviously the greatest comedy ever made -- "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".
yes, it is the greatest, isn't it?
"An arrow"? I remember the "...I want the girl that I marry to have...
a certain... special... [cue music] ...something..."/"Message for you, sir." I don't recall the preceding rabbit (or the later arrow... whatever.)
When I made that one, I fast-forwarded through the movie's DVD and picked out moments. So, I know there's some kind of rabbit before the "Message for you, sir" moment, I just can't remember what it is right now :-)
Aw come on -- the Trojan rabbit, people!
I knew somebody would come to the rescue. Yeah, I suspected it might be that, but I couldn't remember the chronology at ALL for some reason...
So the puzzle is Bedevere's "What makes you think she is a witch?" and not the "Seek ye the Bridge of Death" Old Man (and how/where to find a shrubbery)?
Perhaps if we built a large wooden badger?
Yup. I purposely used vague terminology that could apply to several events in the film (puzzle, rabbit, etc.) to make it potentially more difficult.
