Coquette (1929)

This movie was Mary Pickford's first talkie, for which she won the Best Actress Oscar in only the second Academy Awards ceremony ever. Those are the only two reasons to see this film. Otherwise, it's horrible. The acting is what they call "transitional", because the actors, even Mary herself, are all still used to the silent film style, and haven't quite adjusted to the presence of microphones overhead, which means it's exaggerated. The story is an old-fashioned melodrama with a "moral" to it. However, if you're a huge Pickford fan, as I am, you'll watch her read the phonebook, so this is a must-see.
