Great Game! We could call it "Let's Screw Over Marty Scorsese" or "Keep Away From Stanley Kubrick"
--
1976- Rocky over Taxi Driver (as well as All the President's Men and Network)
1980- Ordinary People over Raging Bull (and The Elephant Man)
1990- Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas
--
1964- My Fair Lady over Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
1971- The French Connection over A Clockwork Orange
--
These also bother me:
1947- Gentleman's Agreement over Great Expectations (and Miracle on 34th Street)
1951- An American in Paris over A Streetcar Named Desire
1967- In the Heat of the Night over The Graduate (as well as Bonnie and Clyde and Look Who's Coming to Dinner)
1979- Kramer vs. Kramer over Apocalypse Now
1981- Chariots of Fire over Raiders of the Lost Ark
1989- Driving Miss Daisy over ...everyone (Dead Poets Society/Born on the 4th of July/Field of Dreams/My Left Foot)
1991- Silence of the Lambs over Beauty and the Beast
1994- Forrest Gump over Pulp Fiction (as well as Quiz Show and The Shawshank Redemption)
1995- Braveheart over Babe (and Toy Story doesn't even get nominated!)
2000- Gladiator over Traffic
2001- A Beautiful Mind over The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2002- Chicago over The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

...plus Rain Man (1988) has to be the worst deserving winner. So I get it: the Academy hates comedy, kids and violence (and won't even nominate SF.) Goodness they make me mutter.

This list is an oldie but goodie on the topic at hand.

This poll might be easier to vote on if you included the nominees in parentheses as well. More work, I know (and it would also clear out any votes that have accumulated so far).

That's a good idea. I'll do it, when I have got enough time. Thank you.

Cool. Just clear in mind that any item you change will have its votes wiped.

Braveheart all the way. Awful.
