Author Comments:

Brian Wilson called his Beach Boys songs "teenage symphonies to God." Basically unreligious myself, these are the some of the verses in my ever-growing hymnal to a higher authority. Anyone who can identify these songs will have an eternal flame in my humble office cubicle/shrine.

*A couple of these are by the same author. I'll try to keep repeats to a minimum, but genius will not be contained.

5 - And these Visions of Johanna have now taken my place... Bob Dylan

2, 8, and 11 sound very familiar as well. I'll ponder...

I know # 7 and the recording artist, but I also am not sure who actually wrote the song.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I can't begin to guess at any of these, but I must say it was very diverting to read them. Thanks. Keep 'em coming.

Number 14 is "Number Three" by They Might Be Giants (yeah!) and number 18 is "Politician" by Cream. Those are the only two i recognised immediately. i love the other quotes, and look forward to seeing who they are attributed to.

16 is Astral Weeks by Van Morrison (Great choice; I used this one myself on my lyric quiz.)

27 is Positively 4th Street, again, by the mighty Dylan.

Almost Famous was a bit too kind. I'm not really quite that nice... ;)

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Oh, and 24 is The Stone Roses. Sugar Spun Sister. A bit cocky, putting the song title in the lyric, eh? :)

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

29 is by Simon and Garfunkel, though the song eludes me at the moment. Like Dylan, I am not a personal friend of either S or G, which, considering that I can't remember the name of the song, might be just as well...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I believe it's called something like "A simple desultory philippic". Also, there are some others by S&G:
2 is "Blessed"
15 is "The only living boy in New York" (probably my favourite song for holidays)

33 - Some Kinda Love - Velvet Underground

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

32 - Army, Ben Folds Five

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

#38 is "Across the Universe" by the Beatles...I think

#33 must be "letter never sent" by R.E.M.

unless of course it is "camera" by R.E.M.

39 - She Belongs to Me - Bob Dylan

Have you heard the live version on the 'Royal Albert Hall' live disc yet? Breathtaking...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

# 51 is To Ramona, Bob Dylan. Finally one I beat l.bangs to!!! (this is Min, not logged in)

36: Paul Simon, Graceland.

#54 was sung by the Everly Brothers, but I don't know if they actually wrote the song and don't have time to find out since I'm checking this from the office :) JojoDelv

#56 is "Scar Tissue" by the red hot chilli peppers

Oh, I do love these things!
#21 is Far Away Eyes by The Rolling Stones

#46 - Lou Reed: Satellite of Love

#56 - Could it be The Pixies - Bone Machine?

#40 - The Who, 5:15

20. The Breeders (Deal) - I Just Wanna Get Along
41. Television (Verlaine) - Venus
59. Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out
74. Television (Verlaine) - Friction

thanks for correcting my Television mistake

I just heard a great lyric that I had to post somewhere:

"As I look behind me, What do I see ?
A pair of golden wings, They seem to be attached to me"

Apologies if this is wrong place.

13 is Fourth of July, by Galaxie 500. I just heard this song not a few minutes ago. Coincidence? Hmmm...

Unless we're thinking of two different songs, I believe 79 is misquoted. I'm pretty sure it's actually, "So wake me when it's over, touch my face, tell me every word has been erased."

Oh and by the way, it's "Everything Right Is Wrong Again" by They Might Be Giants.

71. Modest Mouse - "Gravity Rides Everything"

#22 is "Heart Cooks Brain" by Modest Mouse, #43 is "Fly in the Ointment" by Wire and #81 is "Oh My Lord" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

There are several that look sooooo familiar.

But one I'm sure of is #27 - Epistle To Dippy by Donovan
