This my 1000 favorite paintings.
This was not easy to make, I take the first ideas coming to my mind or that I found on my hard disk.

The updates are in highlight.

WOW! And the hyperlinks!

Ditto on that. Must have taken quite a long time to rig all this up. Impressive! Good paintings, too...

I do it on free time, it took me more than a week.

At first, I would have liked to made a top 100 and grow it to 200 (after 300...), but that would have taken more time to me this way.

Yes, it's what took the most of the time and that is why I have to do two parts, because of the characters limit.

I though that people won't take the time to do the search and since some names are obscure I decide to put links.

Fantastic list - fantastic effort.

Do you have favorite paintings or painters?

I like Monet, but my favourites are the Rennaissance painters such as Bellini and Raphael. A couple of years ago I worked near the National Gallery in London and bought tickets to see a Titian exhibition. Upstairs they had (have) a free permanent exhibition of Rennaissance paintings which I enjoyed even more than Titian. I went back again. Monet's sunrise is my current desktop wallpaper (at home) and has been for a couple of months, whereas usually for my wallpaper I use an astronomy image from the NASA website. My current desktop wallpaper at work is the Sombrero galaxy.

Another favourite of mine is Botticelli. Browsing through your list, you have newly-introduced me to another I particularly like: William-Adolphe Bouguereau.

I'm glad I show you paintings you like.
For Botticelli, I don't really know him beside his most popular paintings, I will look further.

Hey there,

This is a remarkable list you have here. With your knowledge of painting I'm curious if you can give me the name of a painting I'm trying to find. It is similar to Van Eyck's portrait paintings, except it is of a young woman with a white thing on her head. She has very large eyes and is beautiful (in a plump, roundly manner). I have searched through Van Eyck's paintings and have not come across it, so I imagine it is by someone else. Let me know if you have any idea what I'm talking about.

The first coming to my mind was La Toque rouge by William Strang, but you say that the scarf is white, then I don't know, hum...

I do a fast google images search on William Strang and I come up with a site with a girl with a white scarf, huge eyes, but a little bit slim:

No other idea that come to my mind, if there is someting else, I will tell.

I found it! It's a painting by Van Weyden.

Thanks for responding.

Fine. I'm glad you find it, because I didn't know that painting.

What do you think. Is she beautiful?

Yes, but Elizabeth Siddal is still my favorite artists' model. ;-)

I think I have a problem with the site and characters limit (because of the links), I did a lot of TinyURL and I hope this will be enough...
