these are all correct!

these are all correct!

Braveheart - Mel Gibson
Any Given Sunday - Oliver Stone
Alan Smithee - Alan Smithee

Braveheart and Any Given Sunday are correct. I was actually looking for the real director of Alan Smithee.

I knew i knew some more. The great Warren Beatty film LILITH is by Robert Rossen. I believe Josh Logan did Paint Your Wagon. Paddy Chayefsky should not claim that one! And Pocketful of Miracles was one of frank Capra's last.

All three correct! C'mon everybody...help these guys out!

i don't want to have to start doling out the hints :-)

I dont think many people are online right now bro or sis?

bro, any you're probably right. i mean it is 12:00 midnight :-)

The Dead was John Huston's last film, I believe Buddy, Buddy was Billy Wilders last movie and The Sunchaser maybe should have been Michael Cimino's last movie.

You are correct, Sir!

ok, i'd say there's at least another 5 or 6 on this list which you guys should get without my dropping any hints. most likely I'll post another by that same director as my hint.

Well, how did I miss this page?

A good number of the ones I know have already been tagged... Sniff..

What Planet - Mike Nichols
Gloria - Lumet (sadly)
Mirror Has 2 - Streisand (surprised this lasted so long...)

That's all, for now.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

correct on all 3. i'll start posting hints soon...

Oh, Alan Smithee was directed, of course, by Alan Smithee, I believe...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

on the Alan Smithee film I'm looking for the actual director...

Gee, and here I thought you were trying to be funny...

Arthur Hiller

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Me, funny? Nope :-) Good job!

I can't remember the director of Grey Owl, but I do remember that it is a good British director with quite a history who was very upset that the film could not get distributed in America. You'd think if I could remember that, I could remember which director it was, but sadly, my brain doesn't always work like that.

I'd guess Boorman, only I'm pretty sure it ain't him...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

you're on the right track here...it's not john boorman however...

========= Hint 1 =========
01. The Man in the Glass Booth (1975)
04. The Night Visitor (1970)
05. Last Tango in Paris (1972)
06. A Face in the Crowd (1957)
07. The Sunshine Boys (1975)
14. High Noon (1952)
15. Harry and Son (1984)
17. A Chorus Line (1985)
19. Roman Holiday (1953)
22. Gigi (1958)
24. Sons and Lovers (1960)
31. Holiday (1938)
33. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)
34. Duck Soup (1933)
35. Mary, Queen of Scots (1971)
39. Twelve O'Clock High (1949)
41. The Sugarland Express (1974)

OK, for each director which hadn't been guessed I have added another film that they directed.

41 is Spielberg?

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Correct!?

Only with hints given.

05. Is Bertolucci
06. is Kazan
07. is herbert Ross
14. is Fred Zinnerman
19. is William Wyler
33. Stanley Kramer
31. George Cukor
and 34 is Leo Mcreary Spelling could be wrong on this one. I should know Chorus Line

Good Job! I gave you Leo McCarey because you were close enough...

Good job guys! There's only 8 remaining!!!

Was The Glass Menagerie directed by Robert Redford? And I think Pierce Brosnan starred in Grey Owl, so I'll take a completely wild guess that he directed it as well.

Hi, Jim! The Glass Menagerie was not directed by Robert Redford but was directed by a contemporary of Robert Redford's. And Pierce Brosnan didn't direct Grey Owl. lbangs is correct about Grey Owl's director being a fairly prestigious British director.

Well then I have to guess Paul Newman (for The Glass Menagerie). If I'm wrong again, I'll sheepishly sidle out the back door . . .

You are correct, sir!

Excellent! Even at first my little voice was saying, "perhaps Newman?", but I never listen to my little voice. I'm surprised it still wastes time talking to me.

Well It looks like Bob Fosse is the director of Grey Owl,yes?

Hey, j! No unfortunately it's not Bob Fosse.

========= Hint 2 =========
04. The Wild One (1954)
17. Gandhi (1982)
22. An American in Paris (1951)
24. The Long Ships (1963)
35. Anne of the Thousand Days (1969)
39. Carousel (1956)

Only 6 left! Since I'm uncreative I will use the same type of hint. I've added another film that the remaining directors directed. This time to ensure that you get it (hopefully) I've used the film of theirs which has received the most votes on IMDB. (Correction: Except in the case of 39 where apparently I've already given their most voted for movie, once. I've picked another famous sounding one.)

17 is Attenborough
22. Vincent Minelli
39 is Henry King

i should know who directed The Wild One but I dont

3 more! You rock!

I might have to give you guys the last three.

Laszlo Benadek Assault on Agathon. Please tell me I got that one. I feel like a fool for missing Grey Owl.

Correct on Assault!

The Secret Life of Algernon is by Charles Jarrot.Good movie.

Algernon is correct!

One Left!

Thats the one with Donald Pleasance who makes asparagus people. Jack Cardiff is to blame.

For The Mutations

good job, jblack!

OK, now. Time for the bouns round! I would like the bonus round to be limited to those who scored at least one point on the game.

Bonus Question #1:
What do all of these movies have in common?

Bonus Question #2:
What do all of these directors have in common?

1 - They are all the last film each director has done (so far).

I'll start thinking on number 2 now...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

2 - I'll say they have all won a Golden Globe for best director, though I'm not sure about this.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

L Bangs, you rock! You got both bonus question within 12 minutes of my posting them!

So 2 is correct? My first guess was Oscar winners, but then I saw Babs and Ang Lee, so I knew that was out. But Ang Lee got me thinking, and I decided to take a stab at it. I knew several of the directors had won the Golden Globe.

I was rather certain about number 1.

Thanks! I love finding patterns...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Yep, both answers to the bonus questions were correct! Good Job! I had fun making that game and playing it with you guys...

And I willing to bet I speak for the other folks when I say your game was a delight to play! I was rather boggled when I saw films such as American Beauty and Braveheart on here, but with the bonus questions, I believe we all can see a method behind the madness now. Great game.

Thanks!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Well, I was going to reveal the presence of impending bonus questions earlier but I figured that might reveal a pattern and spoil the hunt.
