#3 is White Stripes: There's No Home For You Here
and I think the title comes from Idiot Wind by Mr. Dylan

Good calls! Correct!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

#5 is "Lovers in a Dangerous Time." I know this because Barenaked Ladies covered it, but I imagine you're thinking of the original Bruce Cockburn version.

You read my mind, AJ! Great job!

Bet you didn't know it was quoted inside of another song, eh?

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Thanks, but unless another one that you add strikes me, my point total will probably stay at 1. I have no clue for any of these other ones, although 11 sounds vaguely familiar...

I'll be adding more over time, so keep checking every now and again.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I cracked and looked up #11. I should've known that one. I have that song on Kazaa and I just listened to it the other day. Great song.

I love that song. Not the easiest lyric to associate with it though... ;)

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

"Heard a singer on the radio, late last night / Said he's gonna kick the darkness, till it bleeds daylight."

Ooh! I know! I know! Pick me! That's U2's God Part II, from Rattle & Hum! Kickass song. =)

How did a U2 song stay up here so long? You got it!

Funny, I thought surely number 6 would go long before number 5. Ain't it funny when you find out how wrong you can be? (Ah, gee, there's another song lyric...)

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

1. That's Entertainment The Jam
2. Hey Nineteen Steely Dan
16. Is the first sign that brian Wilson was not really playing the same game as everyone else. "In My Room" The Beach Boys
35. Is Pills and Soaps from Costello.

I know some more but I will leave them for others, for now.

Nice job!

You are very, very close on number one, but that's the wrong single from the right band.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Dont know what i was writing there. Of course that is the wonderful Mr. Clean

I had a feeling you knew that one but just mistyped.

Correct! Great song.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I know number 17 . . . if only I could remember.

Does that count?

You know how it goes... First I count yours, then all the other kids want me to count their entries also... :)

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

10. Is Tears On My Pillow. I think Little Anthony and The Imperials were the first.
45. Chain, chain, chain of Fools..Lady Soul Aretha Frankin

Good job. I had to insist on original artist for the first one because I discovered that (shudder) New Kids on the Block did a remake.

Yikes!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

8. '867-5308' - Tommy Tutone
19. '96 tears' - ? and the Mysterians

tdunnie

Great job! Eclectic knowledge, too!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Dude. I KNOW the singer of number 20, but I can't think of the title for the life of me, and I can't check even though I own it, because the song titles are only on the back paper, which is in Wisconsin.

"I don't know if I could drive a plane, well enough to tailspin out your name, or high enough not to lose control completely, darling, I'm thinking maybe, you know just maybe.. maybe..."

And then number 4 - GADS! The title is easy, the band impossible.

I'm going to keep working on it. Both the title of the first and the artist of the second are right no the tip of my proverbial tongue.

I thought that if you noticed this list, you would be on to number 4. Just a hunch. Will it help if I told you that, rather than a band name, the song is credited to an individual.

And yes, you certainly know the other song!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I ran across my Liz Phair TAPE when making a mix tape today, and I looked at the songs; is that cheating? Shatter, my friend. Shatter.

The other one will just have to continue to plague me, I'm afraid.

That counts! Great job. I often debate between this and F and Run for my favorite song off of that great album. Terrific.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I think I'll download another Frank Zappa song. Hmm, "Valley Girl" seems to have a lot of users, it should go quickly. Hmm, pretty funny song. I'll listen to it again. Hmm... toenails, eh? Hey... wait a minute! www.listology.com... recent updates... When You Reach the Top You're On the Bottom... #22... aha!

:) You nailed it. I'm on the run, though, so I'll have to notch this onto your score when I get back.

Good ear!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

46 - Surrender, Cheap Trick.

Good call!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

47-Moody Blue by Elvis Presley

Great job! I thought this one would stay up longer!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

7) Rain by the Beatles
32) Teenage Riot by Sonic Youth (Ilove that song)

Congrats!

I believe that is the longest a Beatles songs has stayed up here, and for that, I even had to resort to a B-side... :)

Oh, and I love Teenage Riot also.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

30 is Suicide Blonde by INXS. I just happened to hear it today and the Glory to You clicked.

Score another for pivvclam!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

40. is a very old Stones song called Citadel, which I just listened to on my way to work today.

15. Passion is No Ordinary Word Graham Parker from Sqeezing out Sparks great album. Great Artist

Correct!

For the past four or five years, I just cannot seem to get the Parker tune out of my mind...

Been spinning her Satanic Majesties lately?

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Ooh, #26 is "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" by the Kinks! Great song off Greatest Hits.

Well, shit, there goes my one point.

There we go! Correct!

Sorry, AAA. The good (or bad) news is that yup, there are at least two or three up there I know you know...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

26. The Kinks - "Dedicated Follower of Fashion"

Good God, some of these are frustratingly familiar!

#17 97' Bonnie and Clyde- Eminem, sadly enough the only one I knew the answer too.

That's it. Good job!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

That's it - thanks for putting me out of my misery.

It's the only one I knew also, and I still didn't get it. Senility is so sad.

Ooh I know #12.... Sam Cooke & Lou Rawls... Bring It On Home To Me

That's it!

I was looking for Sam Cooke, but I would've taken either.

Good job!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

4. Kim Wilde - "Kids in America"
50. Cat Power - "I Don't Blame You"

FINALLY got some on this one.

Whew.

AAA is on the board!

I had a feeling you would eventually get the Cat Power quote...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Sometimes, taken out of the music, quotes seem very unfamiliar to me.

Sigh.

Hey, check out my attempt at a quiz. If stooky is any example, though, it's not exactly as challenging as yours.

;)

I hear ya. Context helps the memory so much.

When I get a few more free seconds, I'll read your quiz more fully. One already stands out for me...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I don't know how, but somehow through the course of my usual Listology explorations I ended up here. If this game is still active, I've had a revelation. #31 is Life Is White by Big Star.

lbangs, doesn't it feel good to have someone discover an aging and dusty game and have another guess?

Long after I forgot about said game.

Yep, feels great!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Good job!

I am now going to confess that I am a bit surprised that quotes by The Strokes, David Bowie, Matthew Sweet, Elton John, and the Pretenders still remain anonymous.

Here's a hint for AJ - At least one quote above is from an album you purchased fairly recently.

I taunt so... Great score!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

The Strokes? Really? I think this list came out before Room on Fire, so it must be from Is This It... but nothing jumps out at me. I'll have to think about it.

Thanks for the hint. I'll think about that one too.

I just realized why nobody has guessed The Strokes' quote yet...

And yes, I am giggling a bit.

Do you like Life Is White? Something about the way that harmonica wails throughout the song wins me over every time...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I'm guessing #48 is "Hard To Explain" by The Strokes.

Good guess, but no.

I really like the song that quote is from, though...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Jeez, thanks for piquing my curiosity even more...

Yeah, I really like Life Is White. Probably one of my top three or four tracks on the Big Star double album I have.

Isn't that two-fer great? I love the fact that put the two albums together.

The set has just been released as an SACD-hybrid, and I think I am going to have to purchase it again. :)

Lots of great tunes in there...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Aha! #24 is Citi Soleil by the Afghan Whigs! (I just listened to 1965)

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner!

Nice catch.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Here is a hint - Americans can be forgiven for not getting 13, but the Brits on the site have no excuse.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

9 - Mercury Rev - Opus 40
13 - The Strokes - New York City Cops

There we go. Great job! I really didn't expect that one to last as long as it did...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

PS - You added one while I was posting this, and you are right on the money for that one as well! Nice to know there are folks who know their Mercury Rev hanging around...)

11 - Creedence Clearwater Revival - Ramble Tamble
56 - Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young - King Midas in Reverse
23 - Lou Reid (or is it Reed?) - Halloween Parade
25 - Sam Philips - Cruel Intentions
36 - David Bowie - Black Tie White Noise
51 - Matthew Sweet - Thought I knew you
54 - Bob Seger - Rosalie
41 - Elton John - Come Down in Time
21 - Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill (I'm pretty sure he did it solo, and not with Genesis)

And that's all I know. The rest, I have absolutely no idea. (Don't know if all of the above are right though...)

You nailed them all and certainly impressed the dickens out of me.

I am going to be tied up for a bit, so it may be this afternoon before I can credit all of these.

I was hoping for the Hollies on King Midas, but CSN&Y certainly did do a version of the song.

Congrats!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I'm sure you all knew, but Graham Nash (from Crosby, Nash, Stills and Young) started out with the Hollies.

I may have scanned through the quotes on this list one too many times, because on my very first listen to Trout Mask Replica, I immediately recognized a lyric as coming from this game.

#29 - Pachuco Cadaver by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band

Bingo!

How is the Captain treating you? He can certainly be a bit rough at first...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

It's rough, but I'm hanging in there. I honestly haven't finished it yet (math final...), but I find much of it bizarrely compelling. I have concluded that you can't get a real taste of Captain Beefheart just by listening to Ella Guru.

The first time I spun Trout Mask, I wondered what I was getting into. I listened to it several times that week and finally concluded that I just didn't get it. Once I gave it up, though, I found some of the strange guitar and drum interplay sounding throughout my head at work, and a few songs refused to leave my memory. A couple of days later, I popped the disc back on, and the strains of Frownland was like a pool of water in the desert. I was hooked for life.

Now, when I get a craving, nothing else will satisfy.

Really, though, school work? Where are your priorities?

:)

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

33: Five Man Army - Massive Attack
52: She Watch Channel Zero - Pulic Enemy

Bingo! I thought those two would go unguessed forever; great job!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

27) the Father Explains - Daniel Amos
28) Under Tow - Vigilantes of Love

I didn't know if those two would ever go off the big board. Good job!

You're not Tonio's brother by any chance?

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

PS - I noticed your email address. I used to share a radio show with another guy. We dubbed it Darn Floor Big Bite. :)

Thank you sir :)

Not his brother, but I did babble at the man once.

Darn Floor,Big Bite is my favorite DA album.

Regards

PS It's always nice to find another Adam Again fan ;) btw you ever post on rollingstone.com?

As a strange coincidence, the very day you posted this comment, I found a vinyl copy of Darn Floor Big Bite at a local shop, along with vinyl versions of Doppelganger and Leslie (Sam) Phillips' The Turning.

As far as the Daniel Amos boys go, I slightly favor Kalhoun, Motorcycle, and Doppelganger to Darn Floor Big Bite; I think the later has some of the best songs, but the production sounds a bit too dated and clipped to these ears. Still, it is a good album.

I've never met Tonio, but I remember reading a great piece of advice from him - "Change your name as often as possible and always wear shades."

I don't believe I've ever posted at Rolling Stone's site. Should I?

And I think I am the world's official ambassador for Adam Again, one of my very favorite bands...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

"It's you I really want to drive "

Dirty Mind by Prince

GreggB gbelevick@hotmail.com

Bingo! Nice catch!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

I must have spent an astounding amount of time studying this lyric quiz. I just picked up Nick Lowe's Jesus of Cool and listening to "Tonight," I was like, "I know that lyric..."

I soon realized it was #55 on this list. I don't mind if you've given up on this list and don't feel like giving me credit, I just wanted to share this bizarre feat of my memory.

Nice catch!

I wish my memory worked that well...

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

#44 is "Just Like A Baby" by Sly & The Family Stone, if I'm not mistaken.
