Author Comments:
The ones I've seen are numbered.
Note the italicized titles are out of print, and are not included with the collection.

You've seen The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie? Really?? What did you think of it?
Oo, no, had that confused with something else. I removed it. But I also noticed that I hadn't flagged The Rock, which I've seen, and since I believe one is a remake of the other, it all comes out in the wash.
How is that? Having seen The Rock, I can't imagine.
Sorry, bad joke that I thought would be better done deadpan (no smiley). It just struck me as funny that I unflagged Discreet Charm and then flagged one of the most brainless movies on there instead. That I liked The Rock only makes it worse.
I thought it was funny.
LOL
Oh, now, you MUST see The Seventh Seal.
And, what does it mean when a title is italisized?
Oo, Bergman, okay, I'll queue it. I tried one of his when I was a teen Fanny and Alexander, perhaps, and it put me off him for quite some time. But I was young and foolish then, and now I'm less young and, well...
Italics mean that title is out of print, and not included in the $5K collection.
Ehhh... I'm still not convinced you'll like Bergman, but I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on The Seventh Seal. If you're feeling doubly determined, you'll have to try Wild Strawberries afterwards, a very different but still very Bergmanesque film.
Thanks AJ, I'm not convinced either (leaning a bit in the opposite direction, actually), but I'm game to try. I remember you and others praising Wild Strawberries here, so I'll definitely give that a go if The Seventh Seal strikes me.
I'm afraid you remember incorrectly. While I did realize the artistic quality of the film (and it ultimately ended up on my Good Movies tier), I didn't appreciate it as much as some others. My review is here. But I'd still be really interested to hear what you think of it, and hey, you might like it too, as do lbangs, stooky, jblack, and many others...
P.S. I did really like The Seventh Seal though, as well as Persona.
Ah, those must have been the ones I was thinking of.
I'd say The Seventh Seal is much more appreciable in most ways than Wild Strawberries or especially Persona - certainly no The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari situation, here, Jim. :-)
I really hope The Seventh Seal changes your mind about Bergman, jim. He's one of my favorite directors.
Persona, Wild Strawberries, and Fanny and Alexander are all on my top 100. :-D
But whatever you do...don't start with Persona. That'd be a bad idea.
Sadly, even after The Seventh Seal, Bergman remains one of my (many) failings. I'm going to give him another shot in 5-10 years. Forgive me!
Ah, wow, I just noticed how long ago those posts were written.
But in any case...maybe in 5-10 years, things will have changed? :-D
