  • Comment: Certainly a weird album. The one song that breaks the flow and seems out of place is also the best one, and, in fact, the only good one. The rest doesn't go anywhere and if it were to go anywhere, it was taking the wrong way there. The songs are nothing new anyway, but this wouldn't have been so bad if only they had sounded good.

I expected to like them at least a bit. So I'm going to continue this, and hopefully, I'll find out what's so great about them.

  • Comment: On The Joshua Tree, U2 managed to add a new ingredient to their usual mix of irritation and blandness: boredom. While it's true that Bonobo does sound like he's actually trying to sing on this one, it is also true that he sounds like he's become bored with his band. The songs all sound alike (though this was the case before, too) and it still doesn't go anywhere. On the contrary, it goes backwards. The further it gets, the worse it seems, and in the end, it's channelling The Unforgettable Fire again. Though I do wonder which band was kind enough to donate With Or Without You, possible the best thing U2 has ever made (I still have a long way to go, but I doubt it'll have been topped).

  • Comment: Victory! U2 has made a halfway decent album! Now if only they could get the other half right, and if only they'd sign Bonobo up for some singing lessons, they might be able to go all the way. And has anybody noticed I only keep this whole comment thing up, on this page? Sort of weird, when you think about it.

  • Comment: An album worse than The Unforgettable Fire? Wow, I'm sure they worked hard to get there. This one has one advantage, though: they became smart and brought in a real singer for the last song. The song itself is still quite awful, but Johnny Cash' warm voice (and mostly the atrocious quality of everything before it) make it sound like a masterpiece.

  • Comment: So, basically, when U2 decides to re-invent themselves, they do it by...well...basically making the same damn album they've been making since the early 80s? Sure, it was destined to be bad (as evidenced by the atrocious single 'Get on Your Boots', easily one of the worst crimes against the radio of the last few years), but I thought it might've at least been a different kind of bad. U2, please stop trying. You'll never make it.

Though I do love U2, I'm deriving a lot of morbid pleasure from reading your disparaging comments. Glad you like "With or Without You" though. An unoriginal choice, but it might be my favorite song by the band as well. It reminds me of some friends who've always had a very, er, complex relationship.

I'm curious to know what you'll think of Achtung Baby. I'm not convinced it's the sea change in sound that some make it out to be, but it's definitely a different style for the band. I'll be very glad if you like the album, but if you criticize that one too, I'll still be bizarrely amused, so I really can't lose.

Well, I know I'll like at least one song on Achtung Baby, namely One. It's not in the same league as With Or Without You, but I still like it more than most of their songs (for some reason).

And I'm glad you enjoy my criticism. I figured people were gonna start hating me for real for this one :P

Well, I personally adore U2, but your opinion is your opinion. I thought New Years Day was an absolute masterpience, as was Sunday Bloody Sunday.

I don't think Sunday Bloody Sunday is bad. I just don't like Bono's voice.

New Year's Day just annoyed me a bit.

But I'm happy for you for being able to enjoy something I can't!
