Comments welcomed. This was tough to compile, but as a personal favourites list it's pretty spot-on for me.
Not a bad list at all. Personally I think you were too generous with respect to Futurama's third season. You give credit to its best episodes, which are rightly among the show's best ever - but personally, I found that season three also contained more of the worst or mediocre episodes than the other seasons - Where the Buggalo Roam; That's Lobstertainment!; Bendin' in the Wind; I Dated A Robot; A Leela of her Own; The 30% Iron Chef; A Pharoah to Remember (I like it, but everybody else I know hates it, so I thought I'd slip that one in!) to name just a few.
There's the thing; a lot of those I actually quite liked! That's Lobstertainment is rather poor and I Dated A Robot is certinly a weak link, but I've always really liked Bendin' In The Wind and A Pharoah to Remember; and quite liked The 30% Iron Chef and Where The Buggalo Roam. A Leela of Her Own, I can take or leave.
But I always thought one thing Futurama S3 had going for it was consistency! Clearly, others disagree..
Hmm...no, I also disagree, personally, S3 is the least consistent of Futurama's seasons. On the most part, Seasons One and Two are consistent throughout in that most episodes are more or less adventures to distant planets, and are either good or okay. Season Three has episodes on many different parts of the scale, though Season Four has a bit more consistency. Having said all this, like with The Simpsons, even the worst of Futurama's episodes have some good jokes to salvage from it (in many cases, better than that of The Simpsons' worst!)
I'm with Martin1983 here, I think season 3 is easily the most uneven Futurama season. The thing is, the peaks represent the best of Futurama and the valleys represent the worst. I think my two favorite episodes are from season 3 as well as my two least favorite.
Looks like popular opinion doesn't agree with me.. not for the first time.
Honestly, I don't really think any season of Futurama is particularly inconsistent. They all have a few clunkers, but even my #1 season of all-time does (Another Simpsons Clip Show). The peaks of Futurama S3 were definitely among the finest; the valleys were among the weakest, but to my money very infrequent (perhaps 2, 3 in the season).
i'm gald Raymond season 6 has made such an impression.
