Author Comments:
I've taken the time to decide definitively what films I love; that can watch 15 times (hopefully not in a row) and would sit down to watch if someone put any one of these titles in the DVD player.
The most glaring ommission, as everyone will notice, is Hitchcock. He happened to be my favorite director not too long ago and would probably make my bottom 200, but he's been shucked in favor of Jacques Tati & Tarkovsky.

Delightfully bizarre!
I've seen about 36.
But, would you mind providing year numbers for titles like The General, Solaris, Henry V, 101 Dalmations that represent multiple films?
Once again, my 'to see' list grows ever faster than I can consume it.
While you were posting I was doing just that, what are the odds. I'm glad you thought my list was "delightfully bizarre", which is generally how my movie watching friends view my taste.
:?)
Ah, goodie.
A big, whooping, hearty hooray for My Neighbor Totoro, My Man Godfrey, The Thin Man, Lost In Translation, Breaking Away, Amelie, Delicatessen, The Empire Strikes Back, The Long Goodbye (saw this not too long ago - did you catch my review?), Manhattan, Stand By Me, Blade Runner, Before Sunset, Dr. Strangelove, Persuasion, Cold Comfort Farm, Once Upon A Time In The West, Harold & Maude, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Roxanne, and Spirited Away.
Code 46 was that good? The movie came and went amist middlin' reviews, IIRC. You could watch that more often than any single Hitchcock movie?
(hey, you brought it up - I wouldn't have even noticed :-)
From that list I understand that you'd put all those on a top 100 list as well, right on! Now if we can only convince everyone else on the site to watch Persuasion I'd be happy.
Code 46 is the reason I finished the list, I loved every second of it, whether that will love will endure another watch is still to be seen. At this very moment the answer to that question is yes...it might have something to do with me being Samantha Morton's biggest fan. :?)
The only Hitch that even came close were North By Northwest, Rear Window & Marnie. With Marnie being the closest!
:?)
Interesting list. I think I have seen most of these movies and though some would not come near my favorites of all time, not many on here I would say I don't at least like or at least would rewatch. Well maybe Amelie but I know Iam in the minority on that film.
Ok never really liked the Farenheit movie either. Loved the book too much first....
Big props though for some of your oddball choices though. The Horse's Mouth, The Sacrifice (the only Tarkovsky movie where I fully understand the genius label), The Ghost and Mrs Muir, You Can'take it With You.... Plus a bunch more
Might have to check out Code 46.
Jgandcag (the movie buddha), how the heck are ya!
Thanks for the compliment.
You don't like Amelie, have you been to a doctor about that? :?)
Farenheit I can understand, I too love the book but I like the movie better. I think it was the dog robots that put me off and I was grateful that Truffaut excised them.
Code 46 just snuck up on me, I rented it on a whim and was so suprised by the intricacy of the film.
Odd films are my bread and butter, the jam would be entertainment, and you know without the jam bread and butter just don't cut it, sandwich wise. :?)
Oh, did you like Sideways so much?
Great list BTW.
Thanks.
Right after watching Sideways I immediately wanted to watch it again, something which I've resisted doing, it was definately one of my top ten best movie experiences. One of those experiences where the film was actually as good as I wanted it to be.
:?)
Just saw Mon Oncle. Fantastic.
I'm very glad you liked Mon Oncle. As I was watching it I realized this was the movie I'd make if I had Tati's gift for humour. The world view in the Hulot films is so serene and catacalysmic at the same time, that's what I love about this film, the way things spiral out of control and the complete wonder with which Tati relates this chaos.
A place on your top 100?
:?)
Certainly.
I had lent it from the library, and I think they also have Tati's Jour de fĂȘte there...
In the meantime I have also watched Mr. Hulot's Holiday which is astonishing.
But I don't see what you like so much about Wings of Desire. Visually brilliant, granted, but way too talkative for my taste.
