Out of curiosity, how come you're so focussed on when things came out? The only time I personally would think to note it, is if there's a movie title that was used more than once and you wanted to distinguish, or something of that sort. I never worry about it with music though. (Except when Seal did two self-titled albums).

Not a criticism, just a curiousity.

Kristin, well the easy explanation is that I am my bean! Although this is true I also like to know an approximate year when I first heard a song or at least understand how that song fits into the history of popular music. And if, as I hope they will someday, each one of my yearly song lists had 100 or so songs on it, if I put them all on one list a 20 year list would have 2000 items. This might anger are benevolent leader, Jim.

That approach wouldn't work very well for me though.. most of the cds i've been buying lately are of music recorded before i was born :)
