Just felt like creating a list. Some of these I don't really expect anyone to know (has anyone even heard of Buck 65?), but they're among my favourites.

Hey buddy, haven't seen you around in a while, you holding up well?
I don't think I ever heard your thoughts on Barenaked Ladies Are Men? And have you heard Snacktime?
Hey Wezzo! No, I haven't been haunting these boards of late, though I just started browsing the recent updates again last week. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic planning is keeping me pretty busy these days.
I'm doing well, thanks for asking. I do really like Barenaked Ladies are Me , but I haven't yet got my hands on the BLA Men album yet. I only realized they were two different things after seeing the Men one in a Starbucks of all places and seeing the track list. I think my favourite track (off the top of my head) would be Bank Job . In general, I love that they're exploring a more folksy tone, though I loved their straight-up blockbuster pop songs as well.
I went to a recent concert which was just all kinds of awesome. No one I knew really wanted to pay $100 for a ticket, so I went by myself. It was a small venue, which made me very, very happy. Ed almost fell off the stage at one point. Also, a few months back I managed to catch them at an invitation-only concert in which they played a lot of tracks they don't usually showcase.
I haven't heard Snacktime . Is it any good? They were doing a signing at an Indigo Books for parents with kids the day of the concert, but I couldn't manage to A) kidnap one of my nieces, nor B) make it way out to boonyland Langley to see them at 9:00 a.m.
How are things in your world?
Glad to hear you're doing well! You're working on organizing the Winter Olympics then? Awesome.
"Bank Job" is a great one. I'm torn between a lot of the tracks on there; I love the catchiness of "Bull In A China Shop", the sweetness of "Rule The World With Love", the lyrical wizardry of "Adrift", the emotion of "Home". Hard to pick a favourite.
Are Men is great. I'm not sure how familiar you are with it - you've probably heard some of the songs at the concerts - but it's definitely worth buying. "Half A Heart" and "Beautiful" are right up there with "When I Fall" and "Break Your Heart"; "Angry People" and "Down To Earth" are among their best out-and-out pop-rockers ever; "Fun & Games" sees them get political in a quite hilarious manner. I'd possibly say it's even better than Are Me.
I haven't heard Snacktime yet (it comes out on May 19 over here in the UK, I think.) I'm hoping it'll be listenable to their older fans, I've read some reviews that confirm it is which is good to hear!
I still haven't seen them in concert but I'd love to. I'll bet that was $100 well-spent!
As for "my world", I'm doing well thanks. I'm going to study politics at university next year - other than that, my love of music and TV continues to run my life! :-)
Where will you be going to Uni? Hometown or moving away?
I like how you described "Adrift". I've loved their lyrical wizardry for ages, like in "Am I the Only One?" (Am I the only one who loves when you leave....your hair down in front of your eyes?) I'm going to have to pick up BLA Men for sure now, if only to hear "Half a Heart" and "Beautiful".
Hometown - well, about 10 miles away, so I'll still be living at home. I know so many people say that to get the full university experience you need to move away, but I don't really feel ready for that kind of independence yet. Maybe after my first year I'll think about it.
I don't think Are Men will disappoint. All Music Guide describe "Beautiful" as Burt Bacharach-inflected, which I think is quite accurate. And "Half A Heart" is gut-wrenching in the way all the best BNL ballads manage to be. You'll probably also like the moving "The New Sad".
Interestingly, and on a bit of a tangent, I've only really got into Born On A Pirate Ship lately. To start with I couldn't see much that appealed beyond "The Old Apartment", but repeat listens have finally revealed "Break Your Heart", "When I Fall", "I Live With It Every Day" to be the gems they're often cited as (though I still have problems with "Just A Toy", "Spider In My Room", etc.)
I'm assuming you've heard about Steven Page leaving BNL? Extremely sad news. :-( Any thoughts on it? How do you feel about it?
Holy crap, a little late in my reply, no? Like I said, still working on the Olympics and it gets harder and harder to find internet time.
I heard right away when Steve Page was leaving. I can't say I was either surprised nor particularly disappointed. I love BNL, more than any other band, in fact. But I got the feeling for the last few years that Steve was wandering his own path - dare I say even getting lost a bit? I wish him luck in his solo career, but it'll be the rest of the Ladies I'll be following. His voice will truly be missed in that musical ensemble, but Ed has the chops to carry it, I think. Things change, life moves on, and I have a pile of BNL CDs to keep me company when I need some soul soothing.
