Some more or less or less strange and totally uninteresting facts about me

Tags:
  • I speak (more or less fluently) 8 languages: Luxemburgish, German, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin (OK, not very fluently), Latin (even though I have forgotten most words). Due to this I understand and can read Italian and Catalan. Some months ago, and I'll have to take that up again, I stopped learning Serbian resp. Croatian. Next on the list is Arab though. :p
  • I first fell in love at the age of four in the kindergarten. It lasted two years, and after that I never talked to the girl again.
  • One of my worst nightmares is that of being caught in a very narrow place, like a chimney.
  • I hate seeing plays. I never got through one single play without falling asleep.
  • As a child I once drank detergent out of a dishwasher.
  • I still own an 8mm-projector with some films (such as the original King Kong or Tarantula).
  • Giving me an Aspirin is like putting me on drugs.
  • I was always bad in maths. Yet, my end note of my last year of maths was 60 out of 60 possible points. (This was mainly due to the fact that the teacher was even worse in maths than I was.)
  • I was once *very* close to an Academy Award (Shelley Winters), but had no possibility to touch it. (still proud of that)
  • I absolutely hate crime novels. The only one I dig is And then there were none.
  • Like some other listologists here, I once started writing a novel, but never finished it. Maybe some day. (55024 written words to date)
  • I am of Italian, Luxemburgish, Gypsy, German, and Turkish descent.
  • People often tell me that I'm a restless person who cannot sit down quietly for five minutes, except during movies. I just *have* to do something. Even while reading books I cannot sit down, but I have to walk, and read aloud.
  • At the age of 3, I almost drowned after falling into a swimming pool.
  • I sleepwalk (though not regularly).
  • I have never broken a bone. (See AJDaGreat's list and RosieCotton's)
  • The anatomy of my hands is so weird that I cannot even hold a pen in a normal way.
  • The two beverages I hate the most are coffee and white beer. (I've been told that's strange.)

As I said, pretty uninteresting...

Yeah, same here with the novel (and by novel, I mean about 6 novels)

Wow, six novels! And none of them published?

"I speak (more or less fluently) 7 languages: Luxemburgish, German, French, English, Spanish, Mandarin (OK, not very fluently), Latin (even though I have already forgotten most words)."
WOOOOW! Based on this "totally uninteresting fact" you are totally interesting. ;)

Here in Luxembourg you learn at least 3 foreign languages in school: German (from 6 years on), French (from 8 years on) and English (from 13 years on). So, after all, 3 or 4 languages are often the minimum here.

Yet, it's true, I have always been fascinated by languages. I plan to learn Italian or/and Russian next.

what's the *official* language of luxembourg, if there is one (or more)? And for those non-believers, the country does exist - I can vouch for it as we got petrol there last January. Or, I guess I can vouch that it existed last January ...

Yeah, it still exists and it has got three official languages (Luxemburgish, German, French). And the petrol is pretty cheap here (no, Ok, it's expensive, but compared to the neighbour countries...).

I sleepwalk (though not regularly).
Really? And did anyone tell you what you did, when you were in that state or were you conscious of it?

When I sleepwalk, I cannot remember what I do. Strangely enough I can walk around, go stairs up and down without hurting myself. It's just afterwards, when I wake up, I discover that I am no longer in my bed.

Just last night I sleepwalked, and while browsing now through my profile, I thought it'd probably fit.

I used to sleepwalk quite regularly. It seems to be something most people grow out of, as it becomes less and less frequent as I get older. I'm down to about once a year now, so it looks like I won't do it at all in my adult life.

I always loved languages, but in Canada they only teach French for most of school, and none of my living relatives speak anything but English (though we have very distinctly German, French and British surnames), so I'm quite jealous of your opportunities.

For me, it'd be the other way round. As a child, I never sleepwalked, but now...

Learning many languages is one of the few advantages of living in the darkest corner of Europe.

C'mon Luxemburg is not the darkest corner of Europe. I bet they have sleepwalk experts there? ;)
Also I would too sure like to learn as much languages as you have. I'm only at three now.

Luxembourg is a country that restrains you in your artistic possibilities. But learning lots of languages is definetly cool.

Which are the three you speak? (I can guess two of them).

The third one is my native language, which I will keep secret for some odd reason. ;)

And that's your jolly good right. :)

Scotland Yard is thick on my tail, so I'm laying low. ;)

I'm working for the KGB, but don't tell anyone.

I think you are a very interesting person. I'm amazed at how good your English is. As a translator, you would be in great demand in my part of the world.

You inspired me to add something to my list of strange facts. I have been very near some Emmy awards. Not as good as the Oscars, but nice.

I speak a tiny bit of French and Spanish, and I know enough Japanese to be able to tell it apart from Chinese, but that's about it.

Thank you! :) But be happy that you have never heard me speaking English. Seen Down by Law? IMO I sound like Roberto Benigni in that movie.

Merci beaucoup!
Muchas gracias!
