Shows I Thought Would Be Good, but Ended Up Sucking.

  • Band Reunited-VH1: I thought this would be good, until I saw some of the bands they were reuniting. Flock of Seagulls? Berlin? You know, the Beatles broke up too! Where were you then, VH1? And that guy running around getting everyone to sign the album cover-CHEESY! The best part is when the bands refuse perform and go along with the script. The host always looks so dejected. Ha Ha. I had high hopes for this show, but alas...
  • Cracking Up-FOX: I don't know why; I guess because it had the guy from "Rushmore" in it, I thought I would like this show. But, duh!-it's on FOX, it's gotta suck! Do all these shows on FOX have the same writers? Anyway, Swartzman, you quit being in Phantom Planet for this? Sheesh!
  • Queer Eye for the Straight Guy-BRAVO: This show doesn't really suck yet, but it IS getting stale quickly. Perhaps moving out of the metro NYC area would spice things up a bit, you know, where couture, specialty cheese shops and the like are not readily available. Also maybe some reluctant straight guys, perhaps a staunch Republican, would add some much needed tension to the show. This show could still be good with some tweaking.
  • The Wayne Brady Show-ABC Primetime: Every now and again someone tries and inevitably fails in an attempt to revive the "variety show" format; popular in the late 60's and 70's. Wayne Brady seemed entertaining on ABC's subpar-to-the-original,"Who's Line is It Anyway" but his own show was overflowing with stale jokes and hackneyed musical numbers. My main memory of this show, however, is Wayne's always-too-tight, nutcruncher pants.
  • The John Henson Project-SpikeTV: SpikeTV really marketed this show to start with, at least as much as I've seen them market anything, pimping it on other networks with lots of well placed commercials to lure their target demographic(me I guess, since I watched it). The commercials were pretty amusing and I did miss seeing SkunkBoy from Talk Soup, so I tuned in. The first show was hit and miss, with some funny moments and more lame ones and then it ended. It was only a half hour show; it seemed like it should have been longer with all of the filler material it had. Nevertheless, I watched again next week, thinking possibly the first show was a fluke and it would hit it's stride. But no, it was less funny. I quit watching after that. I think SkunkBoy could still be funny, maybe on HBO or something, but on this show he was SkunkBoy because he stank up the joint and not because of the spot in his hair.

more to come as I think of them

I had high hopes for the Michael Richards Show, but alas... It's hard to make Michael Richards THAT unfunny, but somehow, the writers managed.

Michael Richards is an example of a person who created such a memorable character that he will be forever typecast as Kramer. Unless NBC has a Kramer spinoff, which seems highly unlikely at this juncture, Michael Richards may never find meaningful work again. Of course, they could also do a show completely comprised of typecast characters like Michael Richards, Ann B. Davis and Bob Denver.

Hmm. "The Alice, Kramer, and Gilligan Show"? Not a bad idea, actually...

whoa!!! Low blow at FOX... you obviously never saw Undeclared, Andy Richter, The Tick, Malcolm in the Middle, Arrested Development, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Futurama or a little known show called The Simpsons. FOX is probably the quirkiest and most risk-taking network of the big six. Plus, even their cancelled shows were given more of a shot than any other network would've offered them. I would take a crap FOX show over a good NBC show anyday!!!

I totally agree with you. Fox is one of the best network's out there. I can't think of a show that they have that i don't like.

The Beatles reuniting? They wouldn't reunite when they were all alive. Be realistic pivvclam. I rather liked the concept of bands reunited. I think with a little time, that show could've been interesting and they could have gotten some better bands.

Perhaps that's the source of my consternation, bands I never cared about breaking up in the first place. Thank You gadkins for your helpful input. Thank You.
