Author Comments:

*The promotion department for this movie really blew it by showing in a preview scene and describing in plotline promotionals a murder. Knowing of a murder in advance so much detracted from the suspense. Had I one wish to be grated from my movie-going wish list, it would be that the promoters of movies err on the side of restraint. Giving away the movie in advance, as is so usual in previews and press releases in recent years is detrimental to actors/actresses and the viewing public as well as being a self-defeating promotional stategy. Plotline give-aways aside, the storyline and acting are excellent.

MILD SPOILER HERE:
i agree with your comment about the previews giving too much away regarding the murder(s)--but you have to admit there was a lot about the Talented Mr. Ripley that they *didn't* let on about--like the gay subtext, for example--but i, for one, am glad of that. (however, i know some reviewers who were not at all pleased about that particular surprise...)
