OK so here's the deal. Everyone has their rankings of new release films, but because of distribution conundrums and people who live in the boonies and whatnot, nobody's list can be compared to anyone else's because like, it will be 2008 before Turtles Can Fly opens in New Orleans. So Dayfornight puts it in his 2008 list, but its on my 2005 list. This is not a good situation for the list freaks. So in an effort to bring some sense of normalcy to the situation, I propose everyone use Mike D'Angelo's list of year by year Manhattan commercial releases to make their yearly rankings. The lists for 2005 can be found here:
http://www.panix.com/~dangelo/nymaster.html
This is every film that played in Manhattan for at least one week. He has a list like this for every year going back to 1998. Almost no movie that gets any kind of commercial release will be spared, and our lists are more meaningful in terms of comparison with each other. Chaos is averted, enlightenment and joy reign supreme. All is right with the world. Get on the bandwagon.
* indicates a movie not yet released which has a scheduled release date in 2005.

Okay, so what do ya do if the movie doesn't open in Manhattan? Hmmm? Bet ya never thought of that one, bud. ;-)
Also, "When Turtles Cry" would be on my 2005 list, even if it came out in my very own banana republic sixty years from now.
Hey I don't watch those direct to video slasher movies y'all are so fond of.
Maybe IMDB year is a better solution? Something needs to be done about this growing problem.
Ha, ha. That's funny becuz it's true.
Maybe use the piano mover's list as the main reference point and go with IMDb for all others.
That's generally what I've been doing anyway.
Christ, when did that happen? Now I have to see Stay, which I had no desire to do before.
Of course, you're assuming it's *the* Michael D'Angelo that we all know and love. How do we know it's not this MD'A or this MD'A or even this one?
Well, I assumed cuz you put up the gosh-darn link!
That, and I was connecting it to his vow to get serious about filmmaking; I'm sure he has plenty of connections to swing a cameo.
Should just email the sumbitch...
Ah, I see. Unfortunately, the link was an apparently failed attempt at humor on my part. I'm thinking that he is saving himself for that "very special" cameo with Sylvie Testud.
Ha!
Ah, but "Stay" is written by David '25th Hour' Benioff. So in my book, it's worth a look even minus the piano mover. :-)
I read a script review by Stax a good while ago that summarized it and spoiled the ending, and it sounded dumb as a butt. But to be fair, Benioff's 2-for-2 in my book, and I'm sure it's been rewritten since then, so who the hell knows?
Hey I don't watch those direct to video slasher movies y'all are so fond of.
You mean movies like this? ;-)
Ugh that sounds hideous.
Perhaps, but it's part of my job to watch it. Have to inform my boss of how her cousin Danny Harris is doing in Hollywoof.
