My favorite film composers... with there best scores in order of greatness. Of course none of them compare to morricone.

In case your wondering... Once upon a time in the west is my favorite score of all time...
and just to mention... rudy is by far my favorite non-morricone score... probably the only score that competes with morricone's better scores as my favorites of all time.

As you really like Sergio Leone, it's not surprising that you like Ennio Morricone. You are right: there is hardly any other composer one could compare to him. Probably Maurice Jarre...?

never heard any of his scores... then again i've never seen a david lean film so. he's definitly got a decent resume.

I recommend LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. An epic masterpiece with one of the best (if not the best) scores ever.

i've been meaning to see that... so many great movies i've been kept from seeing because i'm always broke.

For John Williams: What about his marvelous score for Raiders of the Lost Ark?

some movies are just soooo bad... i've only seen it once and i couldn't see past how terrible the movie was... if i ever get around to it again i'll pay attention to the score.

If you haven't seen Zeffirelli's Hamlet, I recommend it -- both for the and the Ennio Morricone score and the lively and well-acted version of the play that it happens to be.

I have seen it, but long before i knew of morricone's mastery... I will have to see it again, as i have become more of a fan of the play and morricone alike.

I'm surprised you don't have Hans Zimmer! His score for M:I 2 was beyond words! (and more recently, Batman Begins was good too).

Hey, where's Danny Elfman, Tim Burton's righthand man? When your composing credits include The Simpsons , Batman , The Nightmare Before Christmas , Beetlejuice , Big Fish , and Men In Black , (just to name a few), I think you've earned a place at least equal to Randy "Sappy" Newman.

i'll look into it... I actually heard the name on different occasions and liked his work, i just never equated it all to the same guy.

Oh, okay. Well check out his CV on IMDB. Much as I love John Williams for creating music that reminds me of being a kid and being so excited to go to the theatre to watch a film, I have to say Danny Elfman is the far superior composer.
