Note this is nowhere near an all-time list; that can be found elsewhere - namely here. Check my profile for archived top 20s.
This week:
REM and They Might Be Giants both have a deluge of this new entries this week after a few listens to Flood (TMBG) and Eponymous, Around the Sun (REM); the two bands put together comprise 10 of my top 20 - 5 tracks each.
Despite this, The Boomtown Rats classic "I Don't Like Mondays" manages to hit my top spot (#3 last week) for a second time, and its' 4th week overall, knocking last week's #1, TMBG's "Love Is Eternity" all the way down to #9.
Tony Christie with "Avenues and Alleyways" also manages to keep REM and TMBG from higher positions, but #3 and #4 belong to those bands: TMBG's "World's Address" at 3 and REM's "Driver 8" at 4.
The only other non-REM and TMBG songs in the top 10
are mainstays from Keane ("Everybody's Changin'") and the Police ("Every Breath You Take"), whereas U2 (long-timer "With Or Without You" and new entry "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"), Bryan Adams ("Cloud Number Nine") and Pet Shop Boys ("Always On My Mind") regulars also get a look in, albeit lower down. Further new entries this week include Stereophonics' "Dakota" and Blur's "Song 2".
Other REM and TMBG songs this week include the regular "Aftermath" (REM), classic Flood tracks "Whistling In The Dark", "Lucky Ball and Chain" and "Letterbox" (TMBG), "(Don't Go Back To) Rockville" and "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" from Eponymous (REM), and finally Around The Sun (REM) track "The Outsiders".
