A guide for when I hit the record stores.

Before you plunk down your hard-earned cash, I can offer "trial copies" of 4 or 5 of the above for your perusal. Let me know if you'd be interested.

That'd be really cool. And I'd be most happy to return the favor if there's anything you've been wanting to hear.

Yay Joe strummer and the mescaleros!

dont waste your money on Lyrics Born, most of it sucks, get the new Madvillain, Madvillainy it is in a different league. also les savy fav's album is great.

Thanks for the tip. I have Madvillainy and you're right, it's good.

I was thinking about picking up the Castanets too. I've been wanting to buy the re-release of Sufjan Stevens' debut from Asthmatic Kitty, so I figure I'd buy the Castanets and spread the shipping cost over a couple CDs.

I just downloaded Inches from emusic if you're interested. It won't have the cool bonus DVD, but if you just want it for the music.

I'm going to buy the new Libertines today...

Heh, Gold Chains. I like what I've heard of him.

The appeal of Isis' music dumfounds me...

What exactly dumbfounds you about it?

I dunno, nevermind. I just don't like it, same as some people think are baffled that I like 'Romances' by Kaada and Mike Patton.

Well, now I've heard Panopticon, and whaddyaknow, I like it! Earlier Isis music is too annoying due to their vocals, but Panopticon was almost completely instrumental. Thank goodness.

If you like the metal and don't place a lot of importance on the quality of vocals, you shouldn't be averse to the charms of Isis.

Behemoth - Demigod is somewhat of a ripoff of what Nile has been doing - Egyptian themed death metal. I'd recommend Nile - Black Seeds of Vengeance or Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka over the Behemoth. I might be a little biased since I haven't liked Behemoth since they became a death metal band.

I'm a bit divided when it comes to Enslaved. They have an interesting sound, but I don't always like the progressive approach. Mardraum is definitely better than their most recent album though.

Thanks for the tips. I have Black Seeds of Vengeance so if Behemoth isn't doing anything different, I can probably skip it. Don't have any Enslaved records and I heard Mardraum is the one to try.

I have the following if you're interested:

* Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
* Antony & The Johnsons - I Am a Bird Now
* Stars - Set Yourself on Fire
* The Decemberists - Picaresque
* British Sea Power - Open Season
* The Hold Steady - Separation Sunday
* The National - Alligator
* Ponys - Celebration Castle

Most are emusic downloads, but still good quality, and ALL are really good picks.

An aside, "Planes Mistaken for Stars" is one of the coolest band names I've ever heard. I'm a little afraid they'd be too emo for me, but I have to give them credit for their nom-de-rock.

Holy crap, man! It's tempting, but we'd better keep this small. That way I'll get it done quick and you won't have to wait 3 months. Plus I'm not sure I have that much that you want. How about the Hold Steady, Ponys and Decemberists. Let me know what 3 things you'd like in return. I think the Fuses would be a good call, but I'm not sure about 2 others. I have a 2005 releases list up. Maybe you can find a few things there.

Trust me when I say that Planes Mistaken for Stars isn't too emo for ya. Or, if they are, you can always ignore the lyrics, as they're buried underneath a ton of noise. :-)

Whoa, somebody has a lot of new music to play (with). Lemme know how the Busdriver album is...

Actually, I only got about half of what I deleted. The rest I just pruned from the list. I got a couple new Busdriver songs off some mp3 blogs and was a little underwhelmed. So now that the money situation is getting a little tighter, I did some cutting.

By the way, I didn't forget about reciprocating for the bounty you sent. A fat package of music will make it your way eventually...promise.

I'm not worried at all, man. Whenever's clever.

You don't have EVOL? Let me know if you want it on MP3.

Thanks for the offer. I have it on tape, but I think they've reissued it with a cheap price on CD and I'd like to replace my tape. By the way, I tried to get the Dulli off your blog and it downloaded fine but then had an error when I tried to open the folder.

Whoa, Bellini has a new album? Sweet.

I've only heard of a few of these artists. Are they mostly hardcore/very heavy metal?

No real hardcore on there but just about everything else including black metal, indie rock, punk (old and new) and rap. There's even a jazz record. I like a bit of everything.

Want me to upload "Icky Mettle" to the Hellbox music site?

I keep forgetting to do that.... I can knock off, like, five titles from your list.

Dude, that would be very cool. I need to make some contributions to the music forum as well since I've acquired some good stuff lately.

Sir, that would be most excellent. Thank you.

Am in the process of procuring an Australian copy of "The Drift" as we speak. Next time I see ya, I'll throw in a copy of "Tilt", if you like.

That would be most gracious of you, sir. I hope to grab some of the things on this list at Emusic on the 100 free songs trial offer I found out about last night.

I'll post up Mercy on the Hellbox. It's pretty good, though not as much as Up in Them Guts.

Also, the new Deftones pretty much sucks and I don't care what anyone else says.

If you could shoot out an email when you do so, it'd be greatly appreciated. I could never get the RSS feed to work on that thing.

I heard a couple songs off Mercy on a guy's mp3 blog and it sounds like their best stuff yet. Look forward to hearing it.

As you can see from my list, the world of extreme metal has beckoned. For the last few months, I've been hungrily feeding at the trough of the dark lord and I think my lady is getting scared.
