Movies Watched in December 2007

  • [Loved] The Kite Runner (2007 Marc Forster) Your book made me cry and so did your movie. (Khaled Hosseini)
  • [enjoyable] I Am Legend (2007 Francis Lawrence) Talk about concrete jungle. I think it would take a little longer for grass to grow through the streets but maybe I’m wrong. I should read the book The World Without US by Alan Weisman to find out.
  • Pros: Will Smith and the dog actually aged. Good to see. Has a 28 Days later feel which I dig. Interesting to watch what isolation will do to someone. And allowed myself to ponder the possibilities of being the last person alive.
  • Cons: Several of the scenes were pretty laughable like the lion scene and how the hell did he get noosed? That was just silly. But besides those, I hold the grudges that the movie took a stab at genetic research and yet conveyed the idea of god. Pshhh.
  • [meh] Death Sentence (2007 James Wan) You really ought to think some stuff through before you go off and kill someone. I really don’t feel sorry for him. Now I could plan some good vengeance killings.
  • Oh no. The guy escaped from the hospital! Let’s NOT look for him in his own house at any point in time. Yeaaa….
  • Plus he DID prefer the older son over the younger. You don’t sacrifice everything when you still have lots to lose.
  • [liked] Atonement (2007 Joe Wright) A surprisingly excellent film. Had my gut in a few knots.
  • [overrated] Waitress (2007 Adrienne Shelly) I really don’t see what the big deal was about this movie. Was it the quirkiness?
  • [meh] Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters (2007 Matt Maiellaro, Dave Willis) I guess I’m not much of a fan. The show tends to be rather annoying.
  • [loved] Once (2006 John Carney) What a beautiful, beautiful movie. Notice that I put two beautiful(s) in there. One for the story and one for the music. I’d purchase the soundtrack if I had any money. I’m putting this on my Top Ten of 2007 list.
  • [decent] The Kingdom (2007 Peter Berg) I think I would have preferred the original ending before they rewrote it to appease the production companies. More believable. Good watch though. How do I become FBI?
  • [liked] Eastern Promises (2007 David Cronenberg) I too want that motorcycle. How do I become a driver for the Russian mob?
  • [decent] Out of the Past (1947 Jacques Tourneur) Now I’m finished up with Filmspotting’s film noir marathon and I have to say, I’m a big fan of the genre. Most memorable: Double Indemnity.
  • [decent] Asphalt Jungle (1950 John Huston) "After all, crime is only... a left-handed form of human endeavor." What a great quote. Makes us all connect with our criminal sides in all of us.
  • [disturbing] The Girl Next Door (2007 Gregory Wilson) My god, poor girl. I’d place this movie somewhere on a most disturbing films list.
  • [decent] Mýrin (Jar City) (2006 Baltasar Kormákur) An interesting watch. Detective story in Holland.
