Unfortunately, I have the extraless edition of Groundhog Day. Does Ramis have anything interesting to say?

Why was John Carpenter invited to comment on OUATITW?

groundhog day was so long ago i don't even remember, and i have since sold the dvd, only by process of elimination... I do remember that most of it was kissing the screenwriters ass, nothing too memorable, or i would have remembered i'm sure.

Everyone except for Cardinale were invited to comment on OUATITW simply because they were known fans of Leone's work. Carpenter, Milius, and Cox were obviously directors who were largely influenced by him and were fans of the film. Sheldon Hall is the guy responsible for making the three documentaries on the dvd and apparently had a lot to do with the production of the special features. But most(like 3/4s) of the commentary(they took turns, not all in the same recording) was done by Christopher Frayling, who is now basically considered Leone's biographer, he's a film historian who probably knows more about the man than any other living person(I'm not quite there, teehee). The three documentaries on the dvd as well are mostly made up of interviews of the people who participated on the commentary and John Carpenter happened to be one of them. My guess is they wanted filmmakers who were largely influenced by leone(which are a lot) but couldn't get some of the bigger names(, spielberg, lucas, eastwood, and tarantino to name a few), so the three they got were it. The three they got are better than most of the big names, imo, so all for the better.
