I'm not sure I understand your point... The Smiths have been countless times listed among the Top 10 british bands of all time, be it in magazines or on webpages, they are routinely cited as part of the elite of 80's bands and they have sold records then and keep selling some now, twenty years after they disbanded...
As for Kraftwerk, where have they been underrated? Many people would take the time and energy to argue that Ralf und Florian and their collaborators singlehandedly revolutionized music and provoked the advent of electronic pop and eventually created techno/house and all those electronic-based musical genres... And they sold out their latest "Tour de France" world tour, some dates in massive indoor arenas in Western Europe got sold out in a matter of hours.
High accolades for bands you consider underrated... so please, if you have the time, explain to me in what aspect you consider that these two particular duos are being underrated.
allthough, you always noted that I put them on overrated to. But i explain my self anyway. (as some people might, not get it).
Both Kraftwerk and The Smiths have there fan followings how think they are gods give to man and so on. But the reasoning is more on there rumor than on there music, and then there are people how hate them ´cause of there rumor and therefore they have not even tried listening. Yet they might thing the groups are good when they hear them (such was my feeling of the Smiths, they bloody overrated I thought, and probably suck. And then I listened and liked them...)
Supertramp is underrated ? Once more, I don't understand... they've sold truckloads of records and I mean big trucks, most of their hit singles are still etched in people's minds, be it Logical Song, Raining Again, Breakfast in America and/or Give a little bit... Now I could agree that the Tramp's best creative period (the Crisis What Crisis and Even in the quietest Moments albums mainly) is actually a little underrated in the fact that the mainstream audience doesn't necessarily know these two decent works but come on, the rest of Hodgson and company's career was based on that irritating high-pitched singing and comercially-catchy-driven melodies and definitely make Supertramp worthy of consideration for inclusion in a most overrated list, not most underrated. As before, I expect you will have a great explanation for your choice of considering Supertramp underrated and I am looking forward to reading it.
As crosgrove said nobody admits they like them. oh and the fact is that most people do know the songs but not the group (well among my friends anyway. So this would be Swedish people between the ages of 16 to 24. Therefore I find them underrated, but acctualy you might have a point in that some of there songs could be called overrated...)
Oh, believe me, I have nothing to admit, I positively dislike Supertramp but as I said in my diatribe, I do recognize they have been unfairly treated especially with the situation of their commercial songs overshadowing their most personal and creative numbers... we could call this phenomenon the "Abba plague", couldn't we, my dear swedish listologist ?

Maybe because nobody will admit to ever liking Supertramp these days?
