****BIG CLUE a few of these lyrics just MIGHT be by a band called the magnetic fields...anybody heard of them?*********

morphine, anyone?

this list is under construction. it's still a mini-list. i have hopes that it will grow and turn into one of those monster listology lists...i was browsing through the other lyric lists and thought it would be fun to jump on the bandwagon and create one of my own. i don't think these lyrics are that challenging so people should have an easy time guessing them. but i think it'll be fun. i'm still adding things....slowly

i'm really curious to see who will guess #3 (go bertie!)

i included #7 cause i just love the images it conjures up

#5, #7....any takers? wild guesses? i'll have to think of a clue. hmmm

1. Stratford-On-Guy - Liz Phair, Exile in Guyville

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

you are....CORRECT.

dude, Katherine! Here's a funny lyric you should put in which is really weird:
"...they'll cut your dick in half, and serve it to a pig, and though it hurts you'll laugh, and dance a dickless jig..."
Hahahahahahhahaha. You should put it on your list, cause I really want to see who will guess it!

JEN where did you get that, man?

#3 is YOU'RE SO VAIN / Carly Simon.

right you are.

#2 is My Best Friend's Girl - The Cars

#4 is The Walk - The Cure

#5 must be I Have No Flippin' Idea - MarkW

MarkW

(Geez...should I admit to knowing this one?!?)

#6 is La Resistance - The people of Southpark

What a touching song.

MarkW

i'll need to check with jen about this one (cause she suggested it and i don't know the answer) but knowing her obsession with the southpark sdtrk, it sounds right...

Of course you should admit to knowing it! That song kicks ass! And not only do you know it, you must know it pretty well. I didn't catch those particular lyrics until maybe the 15th to 20th listen.

#8 is Lovecats, also by the Cure.

both of you (MarkW and taryn) are right! making quick work of my mini-list....good job!

Here's an obscure one for you:
"If you dream of the girl for you, then call us and get two for the price of one." I know, I know. I contribute weird shit. And yes, I'm on the listology like every day now.

you know number 11!

I cry Uncle on the rest of these.

MarkW

any ideas about #10, bertie?

Yes. Yes, I do. But that's too easy. So...

#11 is TURNING JAPANESE / The Vapors.

#9--"Down Under" by Men at Work..I think.

I think you meant #10, Down Under by Men At Work. In which case you beat me to the punch. Darn. Otherwise, #10 is mine!

ah, yes, you caught my error. Maybe we could share the glory?

The correct title, I think, is "Land Down Under".

just for argument's sake, i double-checked it: it's listed as "down under" on the men at work unofficial site and other sites as well.

'Strewth! Y' bloody right, and I would've got it wrong. Stone the crows! I need a Vegemite sandwich.

:)

Sounds good to me. Guess I'm not the only one who has trouble keeping the numbers straight in these darn things!

Poor MarkW is feeling abandoned over on his Lyric Quiz. Sniff sniff.

(grin)

MarkW

thanks for visiting mine! i want you to know i did go check out your list....now that is truly a challenging quiz. it's very tough! i couldn't guess any! i think you did a great job picking lyrics that people really do know but some of them sound so ordinary that it's hard to call them up in your head. i picked a lot of easy ones that tend to stand out but i think i just wanted to have fun. i chose the more obscure ones that no one's guessed yet because i was really curious to see who would come up with the answer.

Glad to see that it's getting visits, at least.

For the rest of y'all (Texas talk): Should I start posting the answers to my quiz, or are there folks still trying to figure the lyrics out?

Trust me...you'll puke when you see how easy some of them are.

MarkW

#15 is The Perfect Drug, Nine Inch Nails.

yup!

#9 IS lOVE MY wAY BY tHE pSYCHEDELIC fURS..

yup very good, mr. black.

is #16 Nelly Furtado "I'm like a Bird"?

YES YES YES. for some odd reason i really love that song. i keep hearing it everywhere i go. perhaps i'll get sick of it soon. bye, OONA.

Hey Katherine, you knocked a few right up my alley:
19 = Like a Prayer, Madonna
20 = Laid, James
24 = Vogue, Madonna
27 = These Dreams, Heart
and one of those other ones is really wigging my head. Man!

whoa jen, you're really cleaning up on this list. now if only you could re direct that attention and reply to my latest email? i sent it to the phoenix account....oh yeah, all those answers are correct but i'm too lazy right now to edit the list. perhaps in a while. (finally got my cable modem working at home! yippee. internet at home!)

24. Vogue Madonna
21. Im guessing Erasure L'amour

very good. you are correct

28 is Shelter from the Storm, Bob Dylan. Keep those lyrics comin'!

thanks for the encouragement, min! i've been struggling wiht the listology for a while because my password stopped working....but now it's working again after a few weeks' break. yaya.
****shelter from the storm--you are correct. what a great song****
