  • An American Christmas Carol (Henry Winkler)
  • Manhunter (Michael Mann Version. Actually not a bad suspense movie at all, just not very popular with the Thomas Harris fans.)
  • King Ralph (Not hilarious but a feel-good comedy)
  • The Babe (John Goodman. Lot of people say his acting was bad, but it was actually pretty good to me.)
  • Watership Down (Actually a pretty good movie adaptation of Richard Adam's novel about a group of rabbits who journey out to find a safer home on top of a hill. Pretty violent and dramatic for a family fare, but people snicker when you say you like an animated family movie, which I think is somewhat immature in reverse.)
  • The Plague Dogs,(Again a pretty good movie adaptation of a novel by Richard Adams where the world is seen through the eyes of animals. This time its two emotionally-scarred dogs who escape from a military laboratory testing animals with bubonic plague. Tends They escape into the high country of England, are chased down by hunters, and befriend a cagey fox. Seems more like an PETA film than a family fare, tends to do for animal rights what Thelma and Louise did for feminism. Kind of violent and dramatic in many concepts with a rather ambiguous ending.)
  • Waterworld (Actually not a terrible movie, pretty fun in places. Only really trouble is how much money Costner spent to make it and the revenue he couldn't muster to compensate. That is more of a problem for a producers and studio heads than it is for a movie-goer. I love Kevin Costner's boat in the movie.)
  • A Bridge Too Far (A Movie Too Long. I don't mind war epics, but when they just seem to linger on after the first 1 and 45 minutes with no clear direction, the yawns come arolling. I like watching this because it's one of few realistic chapters of a campaign that was ill-conceived and ultimately lost by the Allies. Has a good cast, and some good battle sequences. The episode with James Caan at the Mobile Army Hospital is pretty well acted.)

Why should Easy Rider be a guilty pleasure?

yeah that strikes me as a strange choice also

Because Easy Rider wasn't really a great movies, the characters studies were a little two-dimensional, some plot lines were ambiguous. There is some reverse racism in the idea that almost all the southerners that Billy and Wyatt run into, except for Jack Nicholson, are racist rednecks. But the cinematography is great, I like tripping-out scenes in movies, it's a little funny when they get to the hippy commune, the soundtrack is great (Go Steppenwolf!!) and the scenery and shots of them riding their choppers are fun. So it's not a terrible movie, it's not great either, it's really average. But some stuff is fun to watch.

Weird... you are really the first one to think like that about this film. But that's cool. However, I think most people like Easy Rider. It even made AFI's list of the 100 best films of all time. That is not always the guarantee that for a great movie: MASH, Pulp Fiction, The Jazz Singer, etc. are all examples of bad films on the list, but I wouldn't consider a generally popular film as a guilty pleasure...

I THought MASH and Pulp Fiction were pretty great movies, Jazz Singer just made it on because that was the first "talkie" picture. Easy Rider is very memorable, sure. But Reefer Madness is very memorable too. However, I think Easy Rider is miles better than Reefer Madness.

I definitely agree that Easy Rider wasn't that great. It had some good scenes, but I expected a lot more and felt it was just average overall. I'm sure most of the popularity is from people who love motorcycles.

I'm definitely a fan of some of these guilty pleasures, especially...

Police Academy 3 (Zed and Sweetchuck are hilarious)
Commando (Just a classic Schwartenegger flick)
History of the World (It's good to be the king!)
K-9 (I must have watched this movie more than a dozen times. German shepards rule.)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (What an outstanding transition from cartoons to live action! A childhood favorite!)
