Author Comments:

Only the first five guys have numbers cos the other 9 are pretty flexible, I can never decide which one I like better.

And where is Jimi Page?

he sucks

Yup. He is really bad.

What about Link Wray then?

sorry, never heard of him

excuse me, this is MY list. if you like that guy make your own list and put him on top, ok?

This is an excellent list!
Have you considered adding Dave Gilmour to the list?

Ofcourse. David sure is one of the best. I don't know how I missed him...

uhhh... Trey Anastasio? where is he?

i know very little about him. would you be so kind and e-mail me with some info and web links on him please

An excellent list -- though if it's in order, I would do it a bit differently. Some of the names I am unfamiliar with; I will have to look into them. Thanks!

thanx very much
I can give you some info on the guys you haven't heard of... which ones are they?

No Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen or Les Paul? Heathen! :)

Eddie pretty much redefined how the guitar is perceived in rock and invented several new techniques that have been imitated (very poorly at times) for better than a decade. Are you holding David Lee Roth against him? (Can be. You have Vai.) Few have innovated as much as he has.

Jimmy was "The Wizard". In his day (say before Eddie) he could play anybody's style and usually better. He's is a master of the art if there ever was one.

I guess Les may not be a Wizard by modern standards, but he redefined the guitar like noone else has, though by now, we take his contribution for granted. None have inovated as much as he has.

I may even consider adding Eddie, but Les Paul and Page no way

What? No Buddy Guy?

yeah, really, where is Buddy Guy?He is helluva blues guitarist.

I think you struck a nerve with this list...

I agree with not putting Jimmy Page on, as he is quite possibly the worst excuse for a guitarist I've ever heard. Remember...I didn't say "songwriter" I said "guitarist". (...Not much a fan of his songwriting either, by the way...)

Eddie Van Halen would be on my list. Iommi, Gilmour, Knopfler, and Hammett (especially Hammet)would not.

I can see why you may not like Iommi, Gilmour or Hammet, but Knopfler is not one of those guys whose talent you can ignore (the other two would be Hendrix and Santana - I don't realy like Hendrix that much, he's just too important to leave out)
Thanx for the comment

Yup, Hendrix would definately be considered a "Guitar Wizard" in my book.

well, in my oppinion, most of the guys from my list are simply good, but only the first 5-6 of them are real wizzards... out of this world

Great list, but seems incomplete without Robbie Robertson and Jeff Beck.

seems very complete to me, thanx.

What about Jerry garcia and Frank Zappa?

no way

Hey thomas! Ever heard of the real wizzard, Lightnin´Hopkins? Man, that´s good...
And where the hell have you left Johnny Williams?

Since I can´t be arsed to log in, this one´s from Alard

geez man, who the heck are those guys?!?!?!

Sorry ... but what about the melodic Randy Rhoads, eh ?!? He's gotta be here !

Randy who?

What about the Frenchman, Django Rheinhardt

I've heard a lot about him, but I've never heard him play. but I'll work on that, I promise...

Your decision to keep Jimmy Page off of your list saddens me greatly. Please reconsider. By the way, Tom Morello may be worth mentioning just because of how creative of a player he is. (Hendrix should also be above Knopfler, but it is your list.)

i realy can not understand what's so great about page

Tom Morello!

yeaaaaah!!! morello rulez!!

what about robin trower and angus young, not to mention the late randy rhoades .oh yeah, also george lynch and eddie van halen?

Hi, what you think about Mr. Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple)??

Kirk Hammett sucks....flat bends, shitty vibrato.
