Author Comments:

This was the final result when the site ended temporarily (it's returned since, without renewing the listing)- according to average scores, and a minimim number of votes. Some Japanese films were badly affected by a sudden invasion of barbarian hordes giving low scores en masse a couple of years ago (why i really can't imagine- is there some secret anti-Japanese league out there?). Seven Samurai still managed to claw its way back to #1, Sansho and Ugetsu worked their way up again to mid-table, with less votes. Anyway, it's a very useful guide i think, with plenty of classics as well as some of the most popular recent successes. But perhaps a bit top heavy with Kurosawa, Bergman, Fellini?
