*'ed entries are movies I'd seen before but was rewatching.
I liked Moulin Rouge better the second time.
I got to see Delicatessen in a theater!!!

I can't believe you found a theater showing Delicatessen! I'm jealous! On another subject, what did you think of Barton Fink?
A small local theater here had it running for a week so I knew I had to catch it :)
Barton Fink was ok. I liked bits of it but overall wasn't overwhelmed.
That seems to be the book on Barton Fink. For the longest time I thought I just didn't get it. But after speaking with enough people, I'm starting to suspect that the emperor has no clothes.
The Emperor is buck naked.
What did you think of Shrek, Pleasantville, Casablanca, The Tao of Steve and Citizen Kane? A simple thumbs up/down will suffice, but of course I'd love whatever detail you're willing to give it.
Shrek: much better than I was expecting. It was one of those good animated stories that has jokes for the adults as well as the kids
Pleasantville: thumbs up
Casablanca: can't believe I'd never seen this before. I can't say I'll want to see it again and again and again but I did like it. I feared a bit for the ending, but then it made me happy.
The Tao of Steve: enjoyable but not incredibly profound. Less of a "guy movie" than I'd been lead to believe.
Citizen Kane: good stuff.
New stuff on the top or bottom?

First time with the Hedwig, I'm guessing. Did you enjoy it?
Yes, very bizarre. I was nervous about the musical-ness of it, but it was well done.
Tao of Steve. Amusing?
amusing, yes. mindblowing, no.
How was Igby? I am dying to see this one.

The acting was good, but I ended up walking away feeling like I didn't like it. I'm not quite sure what caused that feeling though.
Hmmm... That's not a good sign.
Maybe a matinee or dollar movie, then...
Thanks!

I'll back her up on this one. Video is probably the medium for this one. The acting is superb in many areas, but a sloppy script ruins everything.
Cool. I thought it was just me :)
:(
I had high hopes, too...
La vie.
Thanks to both of you for saving me $6!
Shalom, y'all!

wow. movie's are cheap where you are. I paid $7.75
I was figuring in the price of a future dollar theater viewing. The theaters around here charge around $7 - $7.50 - One of the advantages of living in a thriving metropolis deep in the heart of Oklahoma! ;)

Ahh. gotcha. yeah, it was probably worth a buck.
Ya know, just to grummble, I noticed my favorite chain movie theater here in town just went up to $8 behind my back. mummblegrummblemummble

matinees. (not that I make them often but in theory it's a good idea)
Absolutely. I love to watch movies with my wife (who gets a student's discount), so with her hectic PhD schedule, I find the dollar theater and DVD rentals are even more appealing nowadays. The last two films I saw in the theater was Minority Report and My Big Fat Greek Wedding (the last being an invite from my mother).
I have a feeling several of the films between now and the end of the year will change that, though. Besides, my wife's semester ends early December :!) !
Shalom, y'all!

Was A Great Day in Harlem that documentary about assembling all those great Jazz musicians for that famous picture? What did you think of it?
Since you have a bit of a documentary streak going, have you seen Hoop Dreams? If not, I highly recommend it. You don't have to be a basketball fan to get into it (I'm hoping :-).
Yes, that's the one. I thought it was interesting, but was mostly just people reminiscing about each other so wasn't as exciting as some documentaries... Worth a check-out from the library, but not worth buying.
I think I saw part of Hoop Dreams once and couldn't get into it, but I'm only vaguely remembering anything about it so I could just be confused this morning.
Oo, interesting run . . . What did you think of Chamber of Secrets, Die Another Day, and Goodfellas?
Chamber of Secrets was decent and amazingly I didn't have nightmares about spiders. Die Another Day was typical Bond but fun (my group went during the day from work ;) and Goodfellas I'd checked out of the library. It was pretty good but I watched it in several chunks since it's pretty long. I thought that some of the violence was a little needless but overall though it was a little more than my squeamish self can handle it all had plot significance so I can't bitch too much.
You know what I'm going to ask...
