Oh man... I think I gotta sneeze... ahh... ahh.. chTHESTATIONAGENT....
Just a suggestion...
I don't know how it escaped the list...
Added. Thanks!
I hope to have Netflix up and running in the next two weeks, so this is sorta possible prep for my future queue.

yes, please see The Station Agent. i loved it.
Uh, I wanted to smack all three of the characters in the "indie" mediocrity that was The Station Agent. That said, Peter Dinklage is a fine actor. Too bad he's not about a couple of feet taller; if he were, he'd be getting some sweet leading roles. Bet he could still take Mark Ruffalo in a fight, though.
Alas. I loved the movie, and I would be eager to hear lbangs's opinion on it whether he likes it or hates it.
I am now even more curious to see it. Divisive films often make for intriguing viewing!

Word. Every single thing Dayfornight said: Word.
I haven't seen a lot of these movies either, but of the ones I have, I would recommend The Believer before any of the others. The idea of the film--disillusioned Jewish kid becomes neo-Nazi--sounds so over the top and ripe for eye rolling, but it's handled honestly and convincingly. I don't remember the main actor's name--Ryan Gosling?--but his performance is amazing; I can't believe I haven't heard more from him since The Believer. Maybe the film was just too controversial; I know it sat on the shelf for a couple of years because studios were afraid to touch it. See it.
I also liked 28 Days Later, 21 Grams, and Elephant. This last one has some problems, but it's fascinating nonetheless, and is full of ambiguity. The idea that school shootings might be impossible to truly explain is an idea that completely eluded Michael Moore in Bowling for Columbine.

I remember you stating your admiration for The Believer before, and frankly, that is pretty much why it is on the list above. Thanks! I'll be sure to let you know when I finally catch it.
I've got me some Netflixing to do!

Just yesterday I eventually saw the last two episodes of Angels in America.
The following lines of this post are in spoiler tags, not because I'll tell you anything about the storyline, but it could be possible that you prefer not hearing/reading anything about other people's impressions before watching it on yourself. So you don't have to read it.
My impression of it is extremely ambivalent. On the one hand, the actors are excellent (above all, Pacino and Streep, of course), on the other hand, the film's message is not really convincing and seems imposed. The subject is very interesting, but without certain fantastic elements it would have appeared much more serious.
I've actually read the plays, so I know (and know I like) the source material. If the film is nearly as good, I think I will be happy.
I caught about twenty minutes of it one night, and it has my hopes up. We shall see...
Thanks for sharing a few of your thoughts!
Shalom, y'all!
