with much much much thanks to (?? wish the name showed up in the list field). My take on this list is to make it a tribute to each state -- what one film makes me want to go there, see what it's really like? It may not paint an attractive picture, but an intriguing one. Films may mention the location by name, or have been filmed primarily in that state (e.g., Butch Cassidy). In process.

You're totally right about certain films making you want to go to the state they are set in; a film like Chinatown makes me wish there was still a part of California that was like the film.

I'm not sure the citizens of Arizona would like to use Psycho for their tourism campaigns, but it's a great, atmospheric film with that wonderful opening indicating it takes place in Phoenix; I've never been able to figure out the significance of an exact date and time, but it just seems right.

Actually, I like almost every film you have listed here.
