Author Comments:
These are ladies whose tremendous talent, beauty, and personal charm blows me away.

Fun list, but no Katharine Hepburn?
For her comic side, I always loved the 1990-1991 double-punch of Streep in Postcards from the Edge and Defending Your Life.

Nope, sorry. I just can't relate to any of the characters she's played.
A few months of therapy, perhaps, and I can forgive you.
:)
Shalom, y'all!

Some of her characters have qualities I hate to see in a woman: neurotic, manipulative. On the plus side, I really admire their independence, intelligence, and outspokeness. As an actress, she was quite a pioneering feminist role model, for her time, but I disapprove of her affair with Spencer Tracy. That, to me, seems like the worst kind of hypocrisy. To be "independent" means not selling yourself short, which is what being a mistress does.
Well, my love for her as an actress really sidesteps any feelings about her personal life. I am especially impressed by anybody who can play such intelligent, headstrong women and still pull off an airhead (?) in Bringing Up Baby. I am also astounded by her longevity.
Shalom, y'all!

Does she really play anyone besides "katherine hepburn", though?
There's two kinds of actors I admire. The ones I like (charming, attractive), but they always play themselves, and the ones I might not like too much (ugly, villainous), but who make me forget who they are. The best actors, I've found, are the ones who inhabit their roles so completely, you forget they were even in the movie.
Very good list, but what about Faye Dunaway and Sigourney Weaver?
I don't like Faye Dunaway.
I like Sigourney Weaver, but she just doesn't have "it".
What do you think of Myrna Loy?
I think she's lovely. I enjoy her in the Thin Man and the Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer.
