Have you ever read Just Checking by Emily Colas? She strings anecdotes into a narrative of her life as an obsessive-compulsive wife and mother. She describes her worries, routines and rituals as well as her attempts to get help. It's hilarious/heartbreaking.

The anxiety disorders clinic at our university hospital had a two-month wait for an initial consultation. I called every hour hoping there would be a cancellation. I figured their clients probably weren't the most dependable people. They might have every intention of making it to see the psychiatrist but then they'd get stuck at home washing their hands over and over or turning off the stove again and again. But no, the patients kept showing up, and the nurse got tired of my calls.
