Hmm... I think The Boy With The Arab Strap is really good and though Tigermilk is kind of the same I think it is better. What do you think of Elliot Smith? I just got XO and I like it.

elliot smith is definitely what i'd call mood music--i haven't gotten really attached yet or been through an exclusive listening period with it, but it's definitely got potential. (and thanks for the your opinion on tigermilk--i have to check it out.)

If you like Belle and Sebastian, check out the cd, "If You're Feeling Sinister" and "Lazy Line Painter Jane" <(my personal favorite). Both are great cds.

Thanks

Can this be true? Sheila Walsh has a new album out? I'm shocked. Even after years of the 700 Club, I still can only picture her as that new wave woman singing with Steve Taylor...

yeah, i saw her at a Women-of-Faith conference and the new album is mainly celtic-influenced stuff. (and there's a great cover of "beautiful scandalous night" if you're familiar with that tune.) also, i heard she's got a christmas album coming out in a couple months!

How many versions of BSN does that make now? Yes, I love that song, and that first version of At the Foot of the Cross is easily the best album of its type around, IMHO.

i'm a little surprised to see a perfect circle on your list. a lot of maynard's lyrics deal with his disgust of the church. i say this only because your profile says you're christian. i'm just curious to know how you feel about his lyrics. also, tool covers a lot of the same topics. what do you think of them?

nothing like asking the tough questions there buddy... ;)

yes, it's true that i'm a christian, but that doesn't mean i don't think people should be able to express their "disgust with the church"--hell, *i'm* disgusted with the church alot of the time. it does make me flinch a bit to hear him scream "f*#$ your god" but i understand the frustration behind it. i'd love to sit down and talk with him actually.

and musically, a perfect circle is one of the best bands to come out in ages--i'm not going to deny that just because his worldview isn't the same as mine. as for tool, there are similarities, but not enough to keep the disc in my player for weeks on end like mer de noms. hope that answers all your questions, mr. curious. :)

call it curiousity ;)

i totally respect the fact that you're willing to let the lyrics make you think (which is what they should do, in my opinion), and appreciate the music for what it is...great.

p.s. the tickets to swain i bought from you have brought me lots of good times on the slopes. thanks again...

ummm, i think you may have me confused with the *other* taryn that works here... i know, it's crazy that there are actually two in this place, but--i've never skiied in my life so i know it wasn't me!

ahhh...indeed you are right. fancy that, two taryns under one roof. my apologies for the mix up ;)

were you at the bug jar friday night?

nope, twasn't me... and i don't mean to be rude but we should probably stay on topic here. ;] (my email addy is at the top of my page if you have any other burning questions.) thanks!

taryn, have you heard the kings of convenience?

nope, can't say that i have. something worth looking into?

Yes, I think so. If you have mp3 access download the first three songs off of their lastest album and have a listen...

Winning A Battle, Losing A War
Toxic Girl
Singing Softly To Me

...are the three songs I would recommend.

Something about your rotation list made me think you'd like them.

hey, what do you think of the new radiohead album? i havent picked it up yet. laterz.

so i only got a good one or two times through it--and what i heard, i loved. then the pal i snagged it from snagged it right back. hope you give it a try though!

I love those first three songs on villa elaine. If you like that album, you may like One Part Lullaby by Folk Implosion.

you know, i love "one part lullaby" too but i've never made the connection... actually i was just telling someone it's difficult to place remy zero in a genre. they're kinda glam (a la placebo or spacehog) and kinda rock (a la our lady peace maybe?)... but i can't put my finger on what makes them good but not great. still, your comparison is intriguing...

I really don't know why that comparison came to mind either. I think that both albums sound "wistful".

so we have another artofthemixer! excellent.

yes totally! it'll never replace listology by any means--besides, this is a great place to work on seedling playlists--but i'm pretty prolific there as well...

would you mind sharing your username? i'd love to check out your "mixology." :)

I'm 'Brad'. I'm hoping to post a really fun mix in the next couple days. but anyway.

I love Muse - Absolution!!!
