well, I am not convinced that it's very relevant to classify american artists and mangaka together because then why not include european artists of "bande dessinée" ?
But the fact that you choose to call your list "best comic book artists" will probably get you lots of controversial discussion posts.
I'd be all about adding some suggestions from Europe or anywhere else. Being from the USA, I haven't experienced many comics from other countries other than Japan. If someone is wordly enough that they could compile lists of best comic artists by country, then I'd enjoy reading it.
Ok, give me time and I'll compile some lists for Belgium and France... hopefully finished in a couple of weeks.
Some favorites of mine not on my post to Cramoukji... Wayne Boring, John Buscema, Johnny Craig, Jack Davis, George Evans, Frank Frazetta, Kelly Freas (cover artist), Jerry Grandenetti, Graham Ingels, Gary Morrow, Irv Novick, Joe Orlando, Michael Ploog, Bob Powell, John Severin, Angelo Torres, Al Williamson, Wally Wood.
Frazetta is such an influential figure...
any opinions about Jiro Taniguchi ? he's one of the most revered mangaka in Europe, somehow considered "respectful" enough to be published by european "classic bande dessinée" publishers... hmmm, yes, I am still compiling and writing those list of belgian and french artists, it's some work gathering info and putting up links so please be patient.
My favorite is Stephen Hughes and his work at Chaos Comics, most notably "Lady Death".
