Are you kidding me? Touch Me has shitty pop vocals, Don't Stop has the cheesiest carribean style melody, I Believe has some more cheesey pop vocals.

No, im not kidding you. Rui Da Silva's Touch Me is a great song (maybe not the best lyrics, but certainly not bad) which is one of the few vocal songs I can actually listen to without sounding too repetitive (hard to do for a vocal track); it does not have shitty pop vocals at all. The chick singing sounds so exotic and mysterious, and it became a classic the moment it was released having spent one week in the #1 spot in the UK, so go figure. As for Don't Stop, I'm changing it to 9pm (Till I Come) because it was released before the former, making it more original, and because it is a more popular song; almost to the point of sickness, being played at soccer/hockey games; it definitely deserves some praise on the list. Would actually be higher if it didn't sound so much like Chris Rea's - On The Beach. It also stood the test of time having been remixed more times than any other trance song in the history of its genre. However, I do agree with you that pop gives trance a bad name.

Just because it was really popular doesn't make it trance...this is a trance list, not a pop or house music list. And where did you get the idea that it was the most remixed "trance" (I put it in quotes cause it isn't) track? I'd bet Cafe Del Mar is.
well, if it says so on discogs, wikipedia, and pretty much any other musical encyclopedia out there, then i think it's trance. And you got a point about Cafe Del Mar which might have slightly more remixes.
If you insist. But the definition of trance has been stretched, distorted, and perverted since the early nineties. No longer is it entrancing, dark, hypnotic, and trippy...instead, its happy, uplifting, pop-like, and uncreative.
yea, you are definitely right about that since trance sounded very different before 00 (even though 9pm was released in 99). But i think that it wasn't so much as the definition of trance changed insomuch as the music did; producers started getting creative (or uncreative) and followed the same schematic when making a song; i.e. beat (no melody), breakdown with melody, beat with melody, thus the trance scene started homogenizing into something that was like you said, pop-like, uplifting, and uncreative. EDM is a great genre that needs to incorporate more progressive and ambient elements into trance if it stands a chance of surviving.
Cafe Del Mar is trance.

I'm sorry you just contradicted yourself, I criticise breakdowns mainly for the fact that they STOP the dancing (because the beats aren't there). Trance is a form of EDM (electronic dance music), and was originally played at raves and clubs to be danced to.The pop elements and epic riffs I agree with you though.

Atmosphere could be a whistling wind; It's still atmosphere, yet it has no effects or synths. However, I do agree with you for the most part here, but I still feel that what I said hardly merited the level of hostility you give later on; "That's total bullshit." You know I probably spend way too much time on forums trying to classify stuff...I really should just enjoy what's good original stuff and not worry about the genre...
I listen to a lot of other genres besides trance. Tbh there's not enough good trance to just live off of it...the Eye-Q and MFS back catalogues are only a couple hundred tracks. I also listen to Sasha/Digweed prog house/tech house/minimal, ambient, and IDM.

IMHO as far as trance goes, you can dance to it because of the melody, which gives you that euphoria so you can let go. So you don't necessarily need a beat in trance. For example most Goa tracks just have a kick, no other bass.
