AJDaGreat's Current Crazy Wish List

  • 1) That the Olsen twins will realize that, no matter how attractive they are, no heterosexual male is going to sit through their movies.
  • 2) That Yoko Ono will be visited by three ghosts - the ghosts of Lennon past, Lennon present, and Lennon future - who tell her to stop remixing his albums and release the original versions.
  • 3) That a new constitutional amendment be proposed that prevents everyone from talking or writing about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez (except for the celebrities' close relatives).
  • 4) That Spielberg finally decides to release my favorite childhood animated shows on DVD.
  • 5) That the anonymous e-mail spammers finally realize that no matter how many times they annoy me about it, I don't want to buy Valium or Xanax, I don't want to see the Paris Hilton video, and I don't want to enlarge my penis 2-3 inches.
  • 6) That George W. Bush's daughters both turn out to be lesbians who want to get married to female partners. Also, that they both need abortions.
  • 7) That scientists FINALLY invent a cheesecake which magically makes you LOSE weight!
  • 8) That after this current wave of Michael Jackson news coverage dies down, he will finally accept that his time in the spotlight is over and not pull any shameful stunts just to get publicity... because I am really sick of hearing Michael Jackson jokes.
  • 9) That NBC comes up with a better way to replace "Friends" that with that lame spinoff.
  • 10) That the talented Robert Altman gets his act together to make some more good movies after his eleven-year streak of mediocrity after the brilliant "The Player" and the not-quite-so-brilliant-but-also-great "Short Cuts."

I'm still convinced that the parties of #3 have never actually met.

1> The Olson Twins should do a remake of Casablanca with Heath Leger.
2> Yoko mad.
3> But I love the word Bennifer.
4> Yep
5> 2-3 inches, you don't say. :?)
6> That actually could happen.
7> That should happen.
8> Michael Jackson and Cher.
9> I obviously don't watch enough TV.
10> I don't want to see it, it got a 45? on metacritic, that's butt-numbingly bad.

Great list! I can especially chip in on wishing for number 2.

I think you are wrong about 10, though. Sure, there are a number of people curious about what the controversy is all about, but here in Oklahoma, there is a huge crowd of people who went because they felt it was good for them or because they like to encourage Christian films. I'm not advocating anything (I suspect I won't like the film, to be honest), but parents aren't bringing their pre-teen kids along just to get their opinion on how anti-Semitic it is or isn't.

Oh, and instead of cheesecake, I'm holding out for calorie-free ice cream!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

here here. Ice cream good? yes it is.:?)

1. I think you over estimate heterosexual men or under estimate the combination of testosterone and the male's inclination to inertia.

2. Yoko-Bad

3. America...you just have to love it...2 careers that could have been something..

5. There is a joke there somehwere but I ain't touching it

6. Ah; to be young and a democrat...its so much better than being old and a democrat just ask Ted Kennedy or after November, John Kerry. You could ask me too but politcis are just too depressing for me lately.

7. Now sign me up for this one. Where is the federal grant to pay for this research. Please anybody ...where is the money...

8. Michael Jackson- Bad and that ain't good.

9. NBC has been resting on their laurels for far too long now. I would not expect that to change any time soon.

10. I would like him to direct more Movies. I liked Braveheart. I think you are being a little naive to think the only reason people have seen this movie is to see how Anti-Semitic it was.

Sorry, but I have to agree with lbangs and jgandcag about number 10. I have many Christian friends who swear The Passion is the best thing they've ever seen. Personally, I doubt I'd get much from the movie, and if I do see it I will be checking out how anti-Semetic it is - but I really don't think that's the reason it has made so much money.

The reason The Passion made so much money is because every Tom, Dick and Church Group spent gazillions of dollars of church funds to buy tickets for their congregations and any other person they could stick a free movie ticket in front of. I read one news article about a man who spent his whole life savings, $46,000, on tickets to The Passion and was giving the tickets away to whomever he could find to go see the film.

Ya know, I got to 9 and couldn't think of a tenth. I figured I'd just fudge one and hope no one would notice. It backfired, of course. :-) Although I do maintain that if not for all the publicity from this anti-Semitism controversy, the movie wouldn't be grossing nearly as much.

In any case, I'll change it to something better.

OK, you live in a small town.
A local theatre is showing 4 movies.

They are:
The Passion Of The Christ
Scooby Doo 2
Hidalgo
Dawn Of The Dead

What do you watch? :\

The "Dawn of the Dead" remake is actually getting pretty good reviews...

It sounded like the best of the group (Hidalgo bad, Passion of badder and scooby baddest). But there's also this.

Rotton Tomatoes vs. Metacritic what to do, what to do?

arg. My eyes! My eyes! :?)

10) Here's my evidence AJ. :)
evidence a: Cookie's fortune (Really good)
Evidence b: Gosford Park (Great movie)
Evidence c: The Company

:?)

I thought "Gosford Park" was decent, but it's nowhere near as good as the man's best. The others I haven't been inspired to see based on their mediocre reception from both critics and audiences. Both rottentomatoes.com and us.imdb.com ratings put "Gosford Park" as his best film in 1994-2004, and I wasn't too thrilled with that one, so why should I see the others?

Altman had some hits in the early 70's, and then he made the wonderful "The Player" and "Short Cuts" in the early 90's. I think he's got a third wind in him, but I hope I don't have to wait till the early 2010's.

Feel free to disagree, of course. I think that I'm just not the Altman fan you are. Quite honestly, even in his first streak of critically acclaimed films in the 70's, I think that "M*A*S*H" and "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" are overrated, and "Brewster McCloud" is just awful. The good news is, I'm about halfway done "Nashville" and I'm really liking that so far.

I've heard that The Company was a really interesting one. I'm gonna see it as soon as it's on video.

I do disagree! what a shocker ay. In Altman's defense I would like to say that Brewster McCloud was daring at least. :?)

Gosford Park, I love it because it's droll, and sly, and most of the characters are arseholes. It's a black comedy in which the main story is the murder of the seeming main character. But that has nothing to do with the story that is subliminally told until the end of the movie taps you on the shoulder and says, "Hey dummy, did you catch the gigantic red herring." Each scene has a magnificent air of grace. And there are at least ten great scenes, at least. (The pre-dinner scene with the servants, The female servant forgetting to wash the dress during the night, Maggie Smith prying information out of her maid, The undercompartment explenations of why these people are servants, The duck shoot, Mother who doesn't know he's her son talking for the first time, The servants listening to a man singing and the people inside not listening at all, The detective questioning the rich people, His bungling of the crime scene, The closing scene between the two sisters, etc.) For me that's more bang for your buck than McCabe & Mrs. Miller.

And Cookie's Fortune is fun.
And The Company looks great too, woohoo Neve Campbell. The only survivor of Party of Five.:?)
