beautiful list. stellar choices. my first impulse is to say that judging by your other 14, "The River" doesn't belong at #1. But I would be wrong. What sets "The River" apart for you?

Thank you. The River is both fun and somber, defiant and resigned, lighthearted and depressed. It is every thing great about Springsteen at double the length.

Hmmm.. The River is a mixed bag for Bruce. It definitely has some of the best songs Springsteen ever wrote including the title cut, Independence Day, Point Blank and the always under appreciate Wreck on The Highway which might be the greatest last song ever put on any album.

But also it was the first time there was definite filler material. Songs like Ramrod and Im Rocker should have been left for The Tracks retrospective that came out a few years ago.

This album has always had a special spot in my heart as it came out the year I graduated High School but I will take Tunnel Of Love as the best 80's Springsteen album.

Of course any Bruce is good.

by the way,I dig the list especially The Husker Du and Richard and Linda Thompson albums. Shoot Out The Lights is what I would probably consider the greatest album from the 80's.
