As much as I try, I just can't listen to current music without getting bored very quickly. Dave Matthews? Yawn. Rap? Crap. Cobain/Nirvana? More yawns........

ACK! You and my husband would really get along! (He's 57 and a Dylan fan.) I'm not much on Dylan, though. I always tell my husband that Dylan sounds like a sick frog about to croak, but then my husband look at me (I'm 32 years younger than him) and teases me about liking David Bowie. All is fair in the game of love and war. ;) As far as the other artists you've mentioned, I've never heard of them, but I'm sure my husband has. Let's see... he also really likes Leon Russell.

You know what, though? I can agree with you on REALLY disliking the music that is out there today. I don't even listen to the radio. Brittney Spears needs to retire.

:-) Well, for one thing, you're husband must have good taste in order to have a wife 32 years younger than he is! Dylan is an acquired taste - absolutely. but there is no other artist in the last 50 years who has a catalog as brilliant as Dylan's. The list of this man's masterpieces goes on and on and on. When I first heard him in 1964, I thought, "what great lyrics; what an awful voice!". Over the years, I started to really love his voice, his inflections, his ability to turn seemingly impossible word twists into rhythmic (sic?) wonder. Ironically, I don't like his current voice and primarily listen to his 60's and 70's stuff.

I love Leon Russell's first two albums!! His ego got the better of him though and led him down a path of mediocrity. I'm in the process of reading Joe Cocker's bio (oh yes, another fave) and he calls Leon a scene-stealing manipulator.

By the way......after I leave my wife, how do I go about attracting a 25 year old? When I was 31, I dated a 19 year old who wanted to get married, but I wasn't ready. Maybe that was my mistake.......

I used to be dismayed by my parents' criticism of my generation's musical tastes. I guess I've gone one step further - I don't like today's music, but I don't criticize it; "chaqu-un a son gout" ("each to his/her own").
