Author Comments:

This is a new entry in an up-dated series I'm calling the New Critical Consensus. Several people have requested updates of the older series, and since critical opinions shift, I am revamping the entire system. I am averaging the opinions of several excellent music critics to produce a list of each artist's albums. Rather than using a number system, which was perhaps a bit clunky, I will now be using a five-star system. The albums will be listed in a recommended purchasing order, so new fans will have an idea of where the best place to start buying an artist's work is.
These are not my opinions, although, since I have chosen the critics used (and I'm using many), my taste will perhaps seep through a bit.

Terribly nerdy, I know, but maybe this will help people only now beginning to dabble into certain artists' bodies of work.

Scale:

***** - Masterpiece
**** 1/2 - Classic
**** - Great
*** 1/2 - Good
*** - Above Average
** 1/2 - Average
** - Below Average
* 1/2 - Bad
* - Terrible
1/2 - One of the worst albums ever

This is great, but I'd have to say that Unplugged deserves a bit more than one and a half stars. I'm not a huge fan of live albums, with the exception of Live 66, but I always felt that Unplugged heralded in the "modern era" Dylan that we're still enjoying today. It does a good job of capturing, for better or worse, the Bob Dylan that you'll see on stage in 2003. Musically, it's first rate, with the possible exception of Mr. Dylan's guitar playing, but what else is new?

I recall not caring too much for the MTV set, but I confess I haven't heard much of it since the actual airing. I really enjoyed With God on Our Side, but the rest didn't really strike me as too impressive. Maybe I need to give it another spin!

If hard pressed, I might say that World Gone Wrong is the most cheated album on this list...

Shalom, y'all!

Mr. Bangs, I have another request whenever you get a chance, for a band you've never CC'ed before: The Kinks. Thanks!

How have I missed them? I'll start on The Kinks next.

Great suggestion! I was eyeing an album of theirs on Ebay just yesterday. That reminds, I was going to bid on it, and it expires tonight. Thanks for the reminder!

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

You're welcome, although I must admit it was not my intention.
