note: The Filth and the Fury (Temple) and I'm the One that I Want (Coleman) get high marks, but you know me and documentaries.

Dancer In The dark was great. I'm finding it hard to swallow Almost Famous is not on your list Nat. Whats up young bro'?

Almost Famous is a very touchy subject for myself and a lot of people. I thought it was an amusing, if not spectacular, look at American nostalgia and the traditional rock and roll dream. I also thought it was a very nice 70's piece, that seemed to touch a lot of people who lived in that time. I was less affected by it, mostly because I think it wasn't aimed at me. I liked a lot of things, but in the end was not blown away. I hope I haven't offended anyone's taste, and I hope you notice it did end up making my honorable mentions (11-15).

No need to feel you offend, I think you said it quite eloquently. As a person that movie was aimed at, someone who grew up in the 70's, I found it to be the best movie last year. I can understand how it may be foreign to someone who was not born yet.

I would say for someone as intelligent and self aware as you at such a young age, may I suggest another viewing and see if you can find some parellel to your own life in young William Miller.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. On your recommendation I'm gonna rewatch it.

I secong Gil's recommendation. If you don't rewatch it, I'll hunt you down Nat! (ha ha)

I will most certainly rewatch A.F., on both recommendations, and one threat of stalking.
;)

You must have suspected adding a Zhang Yimou movie to this list would draw a comment from me. :-) I'm glad to see you liked it. Have you seen any of his other movies?

No, unfortunately I haven't. The truth is that I am horrinly underschooled in Asian film.

Good gravy man, have you read none of my raving elsewhere on this site?! :-) Get on out there and rent either Raise the Red Lantern, Jou Do, or To Live. I know I tend to be more forgiving in my ratings than you, but I have a feeling you won't be disappointed by these. Jou Do and Raise the Red Lantern are quite similar to each other, but those two, To Live, and Not One Less are different enough that they could have been made by three different excellent directors.
