Just wanted to pop in to mention how much I'm enjoying this series of lists, and the ever-changing monikers for the cream of the crop. I suggest "The Bee's Knees" and "The Cat's Pajamas" for future editions. I can't really relate to your top choice for this particular year, but you already mention it's a bit of a guilty pleasure. Good stuff, looking forward to more! I'd vote for editorial comments for your favorite movie of each year, but no pressure, of course.
Thanks! I know TTYD isn't the best movie ever made, but given the story (I have a real love for 60s pop and one hit wonders), the energy (it's a lot of fun to watch), and the fantastic theme song....well, I'd rather watch it again than anything else on the list. And I couldn't resist the oh-so clever "Top Of The Pops" tie-in.
I think "The Bee's Knees" and "The Cat's Pajamas" would work well when I (eventually) get to the early 50s and the 40s. Thanks for the suggestions.
And believe me, if I could write about the top selections I would. But me and words, we don't always get along so good.
Glad someone else 'round here had the chance to see "Ridicule." I too thought it was a very good movie.
Your low rating of "Swingers" makes me sad though.
I had a feeling that the lack of stars for Swingers was going to disappoint someone. I just hope you're not scarred for life.
I guess it's because I didn't like the characters one bit, so watching a movie about them just didn't set well with me. That whole "you're money" thing grated on me pretty quickly, too.
FWIW, I thought the soundtrack rocked.
Suprising diss of "Independence Day" considering your apparent love of entertainment flicks. is there any reason (other than it's a silly story with 2 dimensional characters, plot holes, useless scientist banter, dorky aliens that look way to top-heavy and an extremely dim ending)? Not to say I don't love it but I'm blind to the many flaws.
Mmmmmmmmmm, Shall We Dance?, I had the pleasure of seeing it in the theatre along with Chungking Express. That was a good day.
