You're not missing much if you skip "Sweet Sweetback". It's pretty awful. I do, however, recommend 1972's "The Spook Who Sat by the Door" if you have an interest in radical black cinema.

What did you think of Trash and Gimme Shelter?

Honestly, I don't remember Trash well enough to give a credible review. But the fact that I have no strong recollection implies a less than potent impression from my first screening. As for Gimme Shelter, I wish the focus was a little more musical, but the Altamont coverage is both fascinating and sad.
